Narrative
DEPARTED S95 AT ABOUT XA00 PST FOR LCL VFR TRAINING FLT. RETURNED AT ABOUT XB00 AND DISCOVERED PATCHY GND FOG WAS FORMING AND A PATCH WAS RIGHT OVER S95. S95 HAS NO LIGHTS AND NO INST APCH. S95 WAS VISIBLE THROUGH THE FOG. ALW ARPT; ON HIGHER GND; WAS CAVU; AS WERE SEVERAL OTHER NEARBY ARPTS. THERE WAS A CLR SPOT SW OF THE ARPT MOVING SLOWLY TOWARDS THE ARPT. I ELECTED TO REMAIN IN THE PATTERN AND WAIT FOR THE CLR SPOT TO GO OVER THE FIELD. THE FOG WAS VERY THIN WITH TOPS ABOUT 200 FT WITH THE GND AND ARPT VISIBLE. I MADE SEVERAL PRACTICE APCHS WITH GARS WHILE WAITING FOR IMPROVEMENT. BY XB30 IT WAS GETTING DARK ENOUGH THAT I ELECTED TO LAND AT WALLA WALLA (ALW) ALTHOUGH THE CLR SPOT WAS OVER THE SW END OF RWY 5-23 AT S95. BY THE TIME I GOT BACK TO S95 (40 MINS) THE WX WAS CLR. AS FAR AS I KNOW I DID NOT VIOLATE ANY REGS BUT I DID MAKE NOISE AND SOMEONE CALLED THE LCL FBO AT ALW AND COMPLAINED. I SHOULD HAVE CIRCLED AT ALT AND NOT TRIED FOR MAX TRAINING. ONE GENTLEMAN IN PARTICULAR IS VOCAL ABOUT PLANES AT S95. I'M SURE SORRY I STIRRED THIS ONE UP. MY PAST EXPERIENCE SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME NOT TO PRACTICE GARS AT S95.
