AN LGT ACFT SHUTS DOWN AN ENG W OF LAS AND CONTINUES ON TO SJC. ENG SHUTDOWN BECAUSE OF OIL LOSS.
Narrative
ON THE DATE IN QUESTION; A NORMAL DEP WAS MADE FROM DAY ENRTE TO SJC. AT APPROX XA00 PST. IT WAS OBSERVED THAT THE #2 ENG OIL QUANTITY WAS SLOWLY DECREASING. ALL OTHER ENG INDICATIONS WERE NOMINAL. COMPANY MAINT CTL WAS ADVISED VIA COMPANY RADIO OF THE IMPENDING PROB. AT APPROX XA58 PST WITH THE ENG OIL QUANTITY INDICATING ABOUT ONE QUARTER GALLON; THE ENG OIL PRESSURE BEGAN TO FLUCTUATE AND THE INFLT ENG SHUTDOWN CHKLIST WAS ACCOMPLISHED FOR THE #2 ENG. WX AT OUR DEST AND ALTERNATE WAS ABOVE BASIC VFR WITH RAIN AND LIGHT WINDS. THERE WERE NO OTHER MECHANICAL PROBS WITH THE ACFT AND AS PIC I DECIDED IT WOULD BE AS SAFE TO PROCEED TO SJC AS TO LAND AT THE NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT (LAS). ZOA WAS ADVISED OF THE ENG SHUTDOWN AND OF OUR INTENTION TO PROCEED TO SJC. AN EMER WAS NOT DECLARED AND NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE WAS REQUESTED AT DEST. A NORMAL APCH AND LNDG WAS SUBSEQUENTLY ACCOMPLISHED AT SJC AT XB58 PST. A CAPT'S IRREGULARITY RPT OF THE ABOVE INCIDENT WAS SUBMITTED TO THE DIRECTOR OF OPS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE COMPANY GENERAL OP MANUAL. A COPY OF THE RPT IS TO BE FORWARDED TO THE FAA. CAUSE OF THE OIL LEAK WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE INSTALLATION OF AN INCORRECTLY SIZED O-RING IN AN ENG OIL RETURN LINE. THE RING RUPTURED ALLOWING THE OIL LEAK.
