Narrative
LOCATION: SAT. WE PUSHED OFF THE GATE; AND RECEIVED INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TO RWY 12R FOR DEP. I PROCEEDED VIA THE RAMP TO JOIN THE PARALLEL TO TAXI TO DEP END OF RWY 12R. ABOUT A THIRD OF THE WAY TO THE RWY; TXWY B MAKES A 45 DEG R TO JOIN TXWY G; WITH TXWY H CONTINUING STRAIGHT AHEAD. NO RTE HAD BEEN SPECIFIED TO TAXI OUT SO THE LOGICAL MOVE WAS TO CONTINUE ON THE PARALLEL. WE MOVED ANOTHER 50 FT OR SO AND WERE DIRECTED TO STOP. AFTER CONVERSING WITH ATC; WHO STATED HE HAD INTENDED US TO TAXI VIA TXWY G AFTER THE FACT; WE HAD TRAVELED A SHORT DISTANCE ON TXWY H; WHICH BY THE SMALL PRINT ON THE ARPT PAGE WAS NOT STRESSED FOR OUR ACFT TYPE. WE DISCUSSED SEVERAL IDEAS INCLUDING A PWR BACK; WHICH I OBVIOUSLY REFUSED TO DO; AND HAD A COMPANY TUG PUSH ME BACK THE 50 FT OR SO TO JOIN TXWY B. I HAVE BEEN TAXIING AROUND ARPTS A LONG TIME; AND THE LESSON TO ME HERE IS APPARENT. WE OBVIOUSLY DID NOT INTEND TO FOLLOW A WRONG RTE TO THE RWY; AND DID THE RIGHT THING BY PUSHING BACK TO TXWY B. I REVIEWED THE TAXI RTE PREDEP; BUT HAVING BEEN TO SAT BEFORE; KNEW THE OBVIOUS RTE WAS VIA THE PARALLEL. I GLANCED DOWN AT THE ARPT PAGE; BUT ON A VERY DARK NIGHT I DID NOT NOTICE THE SMALL PRINT. NEXT TIME I WILL STOP AND VERIFY WHEN UNSURE. WE DID NOT DO ANY HARM; AND ARRIVED DFW NORMALLY AND TIMELY. A LESSON WELL LEARNED; AND NO MATTER HOW PROFICIENT WE FEEL; REVIEW IS ALWAYS NECESSARY. AS I SAY; A FIRST AND WELL LEARNED LESSON.
