HIT AREA OF ICE ON SURFACE NECESSITATING MAX REVERSE THRUST TO STOP ACFT. ACFT THEN BEGAN TO SLIDE BACKWARDS BUT WAS ABLE TO BRING UNDER CTL WITH NO DAMAGE TO ACFT OR RAMP.

Narrative
AFTER LNDG RWY 9 CVG; WE WERE TOLD TO TAXI E OF THE INNER TO DEICE AREA #X. AFTER REACHING SPOT X; RAMP TWR ASKED US TO MAKE A 180 DEG TURN ANF FACE W. DUE TO THE MARGINAL CONDITIONS (SNOW AND ICE; TEMP 28 DEGS F) ON THE RAMP AND PROX OF AIRPLANES PARKED AT THE GATES; WE ELECTED NOT TO TURN THERE BUT CONTINUE TO THE END OF THE RAMP WHERE WE HAD MORE ROOM TO MAKE A 180 DEG TURN. AS WE COMPLETED THE TURN AND APCHED THE CTR OF THE TXWY; A R TURN WAS NEEDED TO PARALLEL THE TXWY FACING W. AS I TURNED THE WHEEL R; THE AIRPLANE CONTINUED STRAIGHT AND AS I EASILY APPLIED THE BRAKES; THE AIRPLANE APPEARED TO ACCELERATE. NOW SLIDING ON ICE WITH NO CTL; I APPLIED FULL REVERSE TO STOP THE FORWARD SLIDE AND REGAIN CTL OF THE AIRPLANE. AS THE AIRPLANE STOPPED; I SLOWLY CAME OUT OF REVERSE AND AS THAT HAPPENED THE AIRPLANE BEGAN TO SLOWLY SLIDE BACKWARDS. AGAIN WITH NO BRAKING; THE AIRPLANE SLOWLY STOPPED AFTER SLIDING BACK. FROM THIS POINT WE WERE ABLE TO SAFELY TURN R AND CONTINUE TO SPOT X. AFTER BEING ANTI-ICED; WE CONTINUED TO THE GATE. AFTER VISUAL INSPECTION; THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE OR THE RAMP.
