AN ACR F100 CAPT COMPLAINS ABOUT THE VERY COMPLICATED ROUTINGS GIVEN TO CROSS ZNY AIRSPACE.

Narrative

WHILE NAVING FROM RDU TO SWF; WE WERE CLRED TO LVZ VIA J220/J49/J70. JUST AFTER PASSING FORTT INTXN; OUR FMS COMMANDED THE ACFT INTO A R TURN TO INTERCEPT J49. ZNY CALLED US AND TOLD US TO TURN L TO A 350 DEG HDG TO INTERCEPT J49. I NOTED OUR POS AND IT WAS ON THE LVZ 270 DEG RADIAL; 73 DME; WHICH SEEMED APPROPRIATE. THEY EVIDENTLY THOUGHT NOT. I FREQUENTLY OPERATE ON THIS RTE AND IT IS NOT UNCOMMON TO PASS FORTT AND EITHER BE CLRED 1) DIRECT LVZ DIRECT LHY; 2) J220/J49/J70 LVZ DIRECT LHY; OR 3) J220/J227/J49/J70 LVZ. THIS IS VERY CUMBERSOME; ESPECIALLY SINCE IT IS ALWAYS GIVEN AS AN AMENDMENT AND USUALLY ATC GIVES MINIMAL TIME TO SET IT UP IN THE FMS. IT WOULD SEEM; TOO; THAT ATC WOULD ALLOW FOR THE 8 MI WIDTH AND 4.5 DEG DIVERGING OF AIRWAYS; ESPECIALLY WHEN DEALING WITH J-SHAPED MULTIPLE AIRWAY SEGMENTS. AS HAPPENED THIS EVENING AND AS ALWAYS HAPPENS; ATC MAKES A BIG DEAL ABOUT FLYING THE MULTIPLE INTERSECTING AIRWAYS; THEN AFTER YOU ARE ESTABLISHED; THEY CLR YOU DIRECT LHY.
