Narrative
DURING THE DSCNT OVER THE PSB VOR WE PICKED UP THE ARPT AND TOLD ZNY CANCELED. THEY CLRED US FOR A VISUAL APCH TO UNV. THE WX WAS CLR WITH GUSTING WINDS OUT OF THE WNW. WE DECIDED ON A VISUAL TO RWY 24 AND CONTINUED THE DSCNT DOWN TO 2700 FT MSL. WE CROSSED THE RWY MID-FIELD AND TURNED L TO ENTER THE L DOWNWIND FOR RWY 24. AFTER ROLLING OUT ON THE DOWNWIND; I ASKED THE CAPT HOW THE SPACING LOOKED BECAUSE WE WERE ABEAM THE THRESHOLD BY THIS TIME. THE CAPT SAID IT LOOKED GOOD. I ASKED HIM TO CALL THE 45 DEG POINT FOR THE BASE TURN AND HE DID. I STARTED THE BASE TURN AND SAID I WOULD NOT PLAN TO ROLL OUT ON THE BASE BECAUSE WE HAD A TAILWIND AND WOULD GET BLOWN THROUGH FINAL. AFTER ABOUT 90 DEGS OF TURN I SAW THAT WE WERE PASSING THROUGH FINAL. THE WIND HAD BEEN MUCH STRONGER THAN EITHER OF US HAD COUNTED ON. WE DECIDED TO DO A R 270 DEG TURN BACK TO FINAL. I ADDED PWR AND STARTED TO TURN AND CLB. DURING THE CLBING TURN; WE SPOTTED BELFONTE ARPT. THEIR TFC PATTERN IS ON THE S SIDE OF THEIR FIELD (R TFC). UNV USES L TFC TO STAY ON THE N SIDE. WE DID NOT CROSS OVER THE RWY AT BELFONTE. WE REMAINED N AND WERE AT 2800 FT MSL AND CLBING AT THE TIME. THE BELFONTE ELEVATION IS 1080 FT. AS WE ROLLED BACK OUT ON FINAL TO UNV; SOMEONE CAME OVER THE UNICOM FREQ AND SAID AN ACFT HAD JUST FLOWN THROUGH THE BELFONTE TFC PATTERN. THE CAPT MADE THE RE-ESTABLISHED FINAL CALL TO UNV TFC. THE PERSON CAME ON AGAIN AND SAID HE WAS GOING TO TURN US IN. WE WERE IN A CRITICAL PHASE OF FLT AND DECIDED NOT TO RESPOND. AFTER WE LANDED; THE CAPT CALLED THE BELFONTE FBO AND SPOKE TO THE OWNER. THIS WAS THE SAME PERSON THAT WAS ON THE RADIO AND HE WOULD NOT LISTEN TO ANYTHING THE CAPT HAD TO SAY. IN RETROSPECT; WE SHOULD HAVE CONTINUED IN THE L TURN AND CLBED BACK UP TO PATTERN ALT AND RE-ENTERED L TFC. WE THOUGHT WHAT WE DID WAS THE BEST AND SAFEST THING TO DO AT THE TIME.
