INSTRUCTOR PLT OF AN SMA SEL COMMENCED TKOF PRIOR TO TWR ACTUAL CLRNC DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY WERE IN POS AND HOLDING WHILE ANOTHER ACFT WAS ON SHORT FINAL. THE TWR ACCEPTED RPTR'S ACTION AND SUBSEQUENTLY GAVE TKOF CLRNC.

Narrative

HOLDING SHORT AND READY FOR DEP. 2 ACFT ON FINAL FOR SAME RWY (RWY 35); SINGLE ENG CESSNA AND LIGHT TWIN. WHEN THE SINGLE CROSSED THE NUMBERS; WE WERE INSTRUCTED BY TWR TO POS AND HOLD. WHILE WAITING FOR THE SINGLE TO CLR THE RWY; I BECAME CONCERNED ABOUT THE SPACING BTWN MYSELF AND THE TWIN ON FINAL. THE CESSNA ON THE RWY WAS INSTRUCTED TO CLR THE RWY IMMEDIATELY AND IT APPEARED THAT TWR WAS ALSO CONCERNED. IN ANTICIPATION OF THE CESSNA CLRING THE RWY AND RECEIVING OUR DEP CLRNC; I STARTED TO BRING UP THE PWR SLIGHTLY. THE CESSNA CLRED AND WE WAITED FOR OUR CLRNC. AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF RADIO SILENCE I STARTED TO EASE OFF THE BRAKES AND INCH FORWARD AND I RADIOED TWR 'SALT LAKE TWR; SMA X IS ON THE ROLL; RWY 35.' THE IMMEDIATE RESPONSE FROM TWR WAS 'ROGER SMA X; THANKS FOR THE CALL.' AT THAT POINT I RELEASED BRAKES AND BROUGHT THE PWR TO FULL AND BEGAN TKOF ROLL ALTHOUGH WE STILL DID NOT HAVE TKOF CLRNC. THIS WAS NOT STANDARD PROC; BUT UNDER THE GIVEN CIRCUMSTANCES IT SEEMED LIKE THE MOST SENSIBLE ACTION. ONCE WE WERE WELL ON THE ROLL; TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF. APPROX 5-10 SECONDS AFTER CLRNC WE ROTATED AND BECAME AIRBORNE. THE EVENT PASSED WITHOUT INCIDENT AND THE REST OF THE FLT PROCEEDED AS PLANNED.
