Narrative
I WAS GIVING A PVT PLT; WITH ABOUT 250 HRS; A BFR. HE HADN'T FLOWN IN 2 YRS AND ONLY A FEW HRS IN THE LAST 5 YRS. IN DOING HIS AIRWORK; I HELD HIM TO PVT PLT STANDARDS. HE FAILED ALL OF HIS MANEUVERS: HIS STALL RECOVERIES WERE SLOPPY; HE DROPPED A WING ON EVERY STALL; HE COULDN'T HOLD HIS ALT DURING S-TURNS AND STEEP TURNS; HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT AN EMER DSCNT WAS. ON TOP OF THIS; HE WAS COCKY AND HAD AN ATTITUDE PROB. HE WOULDN'T USE THE CHKLIST I PROVIDED HIM AND HE SCREWED UP HIS RADIO CALLS. AFTER THE AIRWORK; WE LEFT THE VAN NUYS/BURBANK PRACTICE AREA FOR A SHORT XCOUNTRY TO LGB. THIS PLT COULDN'T HOLD HIS ALT AND ALMOST BUSTED THE LAX SPECIAL FLT RULES CORRIDOR. HE ALSO ALMOST LANDED ON THE WRONG RWY AT LGB. I HAD TO TAKE THE AIRPLANE FROM HIM. AFTER WE RETURNED TO BUR (AS HE MISSED RADIO CALLS; FORGOT TO USE A LNDG CHKLIST AND DIDN'T FLARE); I TOLD HIM WHAT HIS MISTAKES WERE AND THAT I COULDN'T SIGN HIM OFF. HE GOT ANGRY; YELLED AT ME AND AFTER A HEATED DISCUSSION; STORMED OUT OF OUR PLT'S CLUB. HE CALLED THE CLUB OWNER 3 TIMES IN THE NEXT HR TO COMPLAIN ABOUT ME AND THEN HE CALLED TO THREATEN ME. HE SAID HE WOULD RPT ME TO THE FSDO IF I DIDN'T SIGN HIM OFF. HE THREATENED HE WOULD TELL THEM I HAD MADE HIM DO SPINS IN AN UNSPINABLE AIRPLANE (PIPER WARRIOR). THIS IS FOR ALL THE OTHER CFI'S OUT THERE -- BEWARE OF SLOPPY BUT ARROGANT PLTS.
