#1 ENG FAILED DUE TO UNKNOWN ORIGIN. EMER DECLARED; DSCNT INITIATED TO SINGLE ENG CRUISE ALT (FL180); ENG FAILURE EMER CHKLIST ACCOMPLISHED; FLT ATTENDANTS NOTIFIED; APU STARTED AND PUT ON LINE; ENG RESTART ATTEMPTED UTILIZING WINDMILL PROCS WITHOUT SUCCESS. CABIN CREW AND PAX BRIEFED AND DIVERT TO NEAREST SUITABLE AIRFIELD INITIATED (WICHITA). UNEVENTFUL SINGLE ENG APCH AND LNDG AT WICHITA AFTER ACCOMPLISHING ALL APPLICABLE ABNORMAL CHKLISTS. ACFT TOWED TO GATE AFTER CONSULTING BRAKE ENERGY CHARTS. PAX BRIEFED ON PLANS TO PROVIDE THEM WITH ANOTHER ACFT. CREW PROCEEDED TO ACR OPS TO DEBRIEF AND COMMUNICATE WITH COMPANY AND MAINT. ALL CREW AND PAX HAD APPROX 15 MINS TO PREPARE FOR LNDG. ALL COMS WITH ATC EXPEDITIOUS AND BOTH CTR AND APCH WERE EXTREMELY HELPFUL. EMER VEHICLES REMAINED WITH ACFT TO THE GATE IN CASE OF HOT BRAKES. PAX WERE CALM THROUGHOUT AND VERY EXPRESSIVE OF THEIR APPRECIATION UPON DEPLANING. DURING INITIAL ENG FAILURE; WE COULD NOT RETARD THROTTLE PAST CRUISE POS UNTIL SHUT OFF LEVER WAS PULLED AND THROTTLE ADVANCED FULL FORWARD AND THEN RETARDED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HIS CHIEF PLT TOLD HIM THAT THE ENG HAD A FUEL SUPPLY PROB; MOST LIKELY A FAILED FUEL PUMP. THE THROTTLE JAM WAS CAUSED BY AN ASSOCIATED ENG CLUTCH THAT WAS FREED WHEN FO JAMMED THROTTLE FORWARD TO RELEASE IT. THE ACFT WAS A B737-300. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 365865: REFERRED TO BRAKE COOLING CHART; DID NOT SET BRAKES FOR 54 MINS PER CHART.
