Narrative
I AM AN INSTRUCTOR. TRAINING SESSION STARTED AT XA00. PREBRIEF FOR 2 PLTS PREPARING FOR RECURRENT CHKRIDES (BOTH CAPTS) LASTED UNTIL XD30. I ANTICIPATED THE FLTS LASTING 2 HRS EACH. WE ACTUALLY FINISHED AT XJ00. FOR THE LAST 1 1/2 HRS OF FLYING; WE WERE WELL WITHIN 10 NM OF THE ARPT DOING PRACTICE INST AND AT THE END; VISUAL APCHS. WHEN WE LANDED FOR THE LAST TIME THE FUEL ON BOARD WAS APPROX 1600 LBS. THIS EQUATES TO NEARLY 1 1/2 HRS OF FUEL. HOWEVER; 1000 LBS WAS UNUSABLE DUE TO A LNDG WT LIMITATION. I THEREFORE LANDED WITH 600 LBS OF USABLE FUEL. THIS IS LESS THAN REQUIRED FOR AN IFR FLT PLAN. I COMPOUNDED THE ERROR BY NOTING THE FUEL BURN INCORRECTLY ON THE ACFT LOGS BY 600 LBS (TOO LITTLE). I ATTRIBUTE THE MISTAKES TO MY OWN FATIGUE AND TO BEING EXCESSIVELY EAGER TO ENSURE THE 2 CAPTS WERE PREPARED FOR THEIR CHKRIDES AND NOT KEEPING IN MIND ACFT LIMITATIONS AND FLT PLAN FUEL REQUIREMENTS. THERE WAS NEVER AN ISSUE OF SAFETY BECAUSE WE WERE ALWAYS SO CLOSE TO THE ARPT. I AM GOING TO BAL THE NEEDS OF MY STUDENTS WITH BETTER THOUGHT FOR THE PARTICULARS OF THE TRAINING FLT IN FUTURE.
