FLC OF A BEECH 1900 MADE A MISSED APCH AFTER THE LNDG GEAR FAILED TO EXTEND OVER THE FAF. THE LNDG GEAR WAS SUBSEQUENTLY LOWERED VIA THE MANUAL ALTERNATE SYS DUE TO HYD PRESSURE SYS LOSS.
Narrative
WE WERE DSNDING TO COMMENCE THE VOR-A COD. CONDITIONS WERE AT MINIMUMS AND HAD BEEN LOWER EARLIER. AFTER XING THE VOR OUTBOUND FOR THE PROC TURN; FLAPS 17 DEGS WERE SELECTED. A FEW SECONDS LATER; AN ELECTRIC MOTOR SOUND WAS HEARD THAT RAN FOR 10-15 SECONDS THEN STOPPED. IT WAS DETERMINED TO NOT HAVE BEEN THE FLAPS AS THEY WERE AT 17 DEGS. AFTER COURSE REVERSAL AND XING THE VOR/FAF; GEAR DOWN WAS SELECTED WITH NO RESPONSE (RED GEAR UNSAFE ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED). WE IMMEDIATELY WENT MISSED; ENTERED THE HOLD. THE ABNORMAL CHKLIST WAS REVIEWED AND THE GEAR WAS MANUALLY EXTENDED. THE MAINS WERE ALREADY PARTIALLY EXTENDED DUE TO A HYD ACTUATOR THAT HAD SPRUNG A LEAK. THE HYD LOW ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED INDICATING WE HAD LOST THE MAJORITY OF HYD FLUID. THE GEAR WAS SUCCESSFULLY EXTENDED AND WE COMMENCED THE APCH CIRCLING IN MARGINAL CONDITIONS AT A MOUNTAINOUS HIGH ALT ARPT. THE CONDITIONS IN THE REGION HAD BEEN GOING DOWN SO IT WAS IMPORTANT TO LAND AT THE DEST ARPT. THIS ADDED TO THE STRESS LEVEL. WORKING AS A TEAM (CRM) MADE TROUBLESHOOTING; MAINTAINING POSITIVE ACFT CTL; AND POSITIONAL AWARENESS POSSIBLE. CTR WAS HELPFUL IN KEEPING THE AREA TO US; NOT INCREASING THE STRESS LEVEL BY KEEPING HIS QUESTIONS TO A MINIMUM. NO EMER WAS DECLARED AS WE WERE ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY EXTEND THE GEAR.
