Narrative
DURING ARR INTO NEWARK; WHILE ON THE DSCNT INTO THE AREA; ON THE WILLIAMSPORT ONE ARR; WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO CROSS SWEET AT 7000 FT. AT THE TIME WE WERE AT 13000 FT AND IT APPEARED THAT ALTHOUGH IT WOULD REQUIRE AN AGGRESSIVE DSCNT; WE COULD MAKE IT. USING FLT IDLE AND SPD BRAKES; WE STARTED DOWN. DUE TO HVY RAPID TFC ON THE FREQ; I WAS NOT ABLE TO ADVISE APCH THAT MEETING THE RESTR WAS QUESTIONABLE. THE INTENT WAS TO ASK FOR A VECTOR TO HELP GET RID OF THE ALT PRIOR TO XING SWEET INTXN. AS WE CROSSED SWEET; WE WERE AT 7500 FT MSL THE CTLRS GAVE US A VECTOR AND CONTINUED DSCNT TO 6000 FT AND NOTHING WAS SAID BY APCH CTL REF THE XING LIMIT. I MAKE A POINT TO GET DOWN EARLY. THIS TIME IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE DUE TO THE ALT AND DISTANCE COVERED. A MAJOR CONTRIBUTING FACTOR WAS THE WORKLOAD ON THE APCH FREQ WHICH RESULTED IN NUMEROUS BLOCKED XMISSIONS FROM BOTH ACFT AND CTLRS. P.S. DURING THE EVENTS DESCRIBED THERE WERE NO TCASII CONFLICTS INDICATED. THE CLOSEST TARGET WAS 1100 FT BELOW OUR FLT PATH.
