Synopsis

MLG ACFT ABORTED TKOF DUE TO FLAP/SLAT SENSING FAULT. RPTR ATTRIBUTES RAIN FROM GALLEY SERVICING TO POSSIBLE CAUSE OF CIRCUIT PROB.

Narrative

ACFT WAS IN POS AND HOLD ON RWY WITH ALL CHKLISTS COMPLETED. WHEN ADVANCING THRUST LEVERS FOR TKOF THE TKOF WARNING HORN SOUNDED. TKOF ABORTED AND RETURNED TO RAMP. MAINT TROUBLESHOOTING REVEALED THAT WITH SLATS EXTENDED THE LIGHT INDICATIONS FOR INTRANSIT AND EXTEND DID NOT ILLUMINATE. PROB SOLVED BY CYCLING CIRCUIT BREAKERS; ALTHOUGH CIRCUIT BREAKERS WERE NOT POPPED AT TIME OF INCIDENT. AT ANY TIME AFTER CHKING THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON TAXI CHKLIST TO ADVANCING THRUST LEVERS FOR TKOF THE CIRCUITRY COULD HAVE FAILED AND THE LIGHT EXTINGUISHED. THE SLATS AT ALL TIMES WORKED NORMALLY. THE FACT THAT IT WAS RAINING AND THE ACFT WAS CATERED IN THE RAIN MAY BE A CAUSAL FACTOR TO THIS MECHANICAL FAILURE. SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF WATER POOLS IN THE FORWARD GALLEY WHEN THE FORWARD SVC DOOR IS OPEN FOR CATERING AND IT IS RAINING. THE WATER FINDS ITS WAY TO THE ELECTRICAL EQUIP COMPARTMENT AND MANY TIMES ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS HAVE OCCURRED IN THESE CIRCUMSTANCES. IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE A CANVAS AWNING ATTACHED TO THE CATERING TRUCKS TO EXTEND TO THE ACFT DOOR SILL TO BLOCK SOME OF THE RAIN FROM COMING IN THE ACFT.
