Narrative
I WAS GOING TO BACK-TAXI ON RWY 10 TO REFUEL MY AIRPLANE. PRIOR TO TAXIING ONTO THE RWY I CALLED MY INTENTIONS ON 122.80 (UNICOM). AN AEROSTAR RESPONDED BY TELLING ME HE WAS IN THE PATTERN. I HELD A SAFE POS OFF THE RWY. ONCE THE AEROSTAR LANDED I LOOKED OUT ON THE FINAL AND BASE LEG OF THE RWY AND SAW NO ONE. I CALLED MY INTENTIONS AGAIN TO BACK TAXI; WITH NO IMMEDIATE RESPONSE FROM ANYONE ELSE. I HAD NO SOON CROSSED THE YELLOW LINES; SEPARATING THE TXWY FROM THE RWY ENVIRONMENT WHEN I HEARD A CITATION CALLING BASE FOR RWY 10. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED; WITH THE NOSE OF MY ACFT PROTRUDING JUST PAST THE YELLOW LINES OFF THE TXWY. MY WHEELS HAD NOT YET CROSSED THE YELLOW LINES. I TOLD THE CITATION THAT I HAD JUST ENTERED THE RWY ENVIRONMENT; HOWEVER; I WAS NOT ON THE ACTUAL RWY. BY THIS TIME HE WAS TURNING ON FINAL AND SAID FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN SAFETY; HE WAS GOING TO GAR. (IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE RWY AT THIS ARPT IS 40 FT WIDE.) HE WENT AROUND AND I PROCEEDED TO BACK-TAXI TO THE FUEL AREA. AT NO TIME WERE ANY OF THE ACFT IN ANY DANGER NOR WERE THERE ANY REASONS FOR 'EVASIVE' MANEUVERING; JUST A SIMPLE GAR. WHILE I REGRET THE GAR ON THE PART OF THE CITATION; THIS INCIDENT HAS BEEN BOTHERING ME FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS NOW. I WILL EXERCISE GREATER CAUTION AT UNCTLED ARPTS TO INSURE A WIDER MARGIN OF SAFETY. I AM STILL NOT CONVINCED I COULD HAVE DONE ANYTHING MORE THAN WHAT I DID. I LOOKED AND LISTENED PRIOR TO ANY MOVEMENT.
