AN AIRBUS 310-203 IN CLB AT FL210 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO A FIRE WARNING ON #1 ENG CAUSED BY A BROKEN 11TH STAGE ENG PNEUMATIC DUCT.

Narrative

FLEX TKOF (REDUCED PWR) RWY 6 BDL. AFTER THE AFTER TKOF CHKLIST COMPLETED; THE R-HAND ECAM (NO CHIME) ADVISORY PAGE ILLUMINATED SHOWING THE NACELLE TEMP IN DEGS CELSIUS FOR #1 ENG TO BE 230 DEGS C (FLASHING GREEN). WE CONTINUED THE CLB TO FL210 AND ECAM NACELLE TEMP WENT TO 255 DEGS C THEN CRC AND #1 ENG FIRE WARNING OCCURRED (FIRE AND LOOP LIGHTS ON OVERHEAD PANEL ILLUMINATED). WHEN #1 ENG THRUST RETARDED TO IDLE; ALL INDICATIONS WERE NORMAL. RECOVERY BACK TO BDL RWY 6 WAS FLOWN AS A VISUAL APCH ATS AND; BOTH ENGS USED OK. EMER WAS DECLARED AND OVERWT LNDG WAS ALSO WRITTEN UP IN AML. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THE WARNING WAS NOT A FALSE WARNING; THE CAUSE BEING A BROKEN 11TH STAGE HIGH PRESSURE DUCT ON THE #1 ENG; A GENERAL ELECTRIC CF-6-80A3S. THE WARNING CEASED; HE SAID; WHEN THE THROTTLE WAS RETARDED TO IDLE SO THE ENG WAS NOT SHUT DOWN. HE STATED THAT ALL WARNINGS THAT MAKE UP THE FIRE AND OVERHEAT SYS; AURAL WARNING AND LIGHTS; WORKED NORMALLY.
