Narrative
I WAS THE CAPT OF ACR FLT ABC FROM CLE-DEN. WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI FROM CONCOURSE Z; SPOT X; TO 'RWY 23L VIA TXWY U; RWY 28; HOLD SHORT OF RWY 23L.' ALTHOUGH UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT; AND THE UNUSUAL CLRNC TO TAXI ON A RWY TO HOLD SHORT OF AN INTERSECTING RWY; THE TAXI WAS UNEVENTFUL. WX CONDITIONS WERE CLR; GOOD VISIBILITY; IN DAYLIGHT HRS. TAXIING WBOUND ON RWY 28; IT WAS MY INTENTION TO HOLD WELL SHORT OF THE RWY 23L EDGE LINE; WHICH WAS IN MY VIEW AND THE FOCUS OF MY TAXI. NOT BEING ACCUSTOMED TO SEEING A YELLOW HOLD SHORT LINE ON A RWY; I PROCEEDED ACROSS THE HOLD SHORT LINE TO MY INTENDED STOP POINT UNTIL ALERTED BY MY COPLT. ALTHOUGH I STOPPED WELL SHORT OF RWY 23L; ABOUT HALF THE ACFT WAS ACROSS THE HOLD LINE. SHORTLY THEREAFTER; WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF OF RWY 23L; WITH NO MENTION BY ATC OF OUR XING TO HOLD LINE. THERE WAS NO ENCROACHMENT (IE; XING THE RWY EDGE LINE) OF RWY 23L. IN ADDITION TO BETTER DILIGENCE ON MY PART; I BELIEVE MORE EXPLICIT ATC INSTRUCTIONS AND BETTER ARPT MARKINGS COULD HAVE MADE THIS SIT AVOIDABLE.
