INST TRAINING FLT TO PAINE FIELD FOR ILS PRACTICE APCHS. I DECIDED TO TRY A CHANGE ON THE STUDENT BY GIVING HIM AN APCH AT AWO; (ARLINGTON) (LOC RWY 34) ON THE WAY TO VECTORS FOR ILS RWY 16 AT PAE; A TYPICAL TRAINING RTE FOR IFR TRAINING. I REQUESTED THE LOC RWY 34 AT AWO; AND WAS CLRED TO THE ARPT LATER FOR THE APCH; CONTACTED ADVISORY FREQ AT AWO TO ANNOUNCE STRAIGHT IN RWY 34 LOC APCH. ABOUT 2 MI OUT OR SO; WE NOTICED A STEADY GREEN LIGHT. I THEN REALIZED THAT THE TEMPORARY TWR WAS IN OP AT AWO FOR AN UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENT AT AWO; AND WE HAD NOT CONTACTED THEM ON THE TEMPORARY FREQ FOR THE LOW APCH. THERE WERE NO ACFT THAT WE COULD SEE IN THE PATTERN; AND IT WAS ABOUT 20 MINS BEFORE TEMPORARY TWR CLOSED. WE PROCEEDED TO MISS THE APCH AND CONTINUE TO PAE FOR THE ILS; WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE PROBS THAT LED TO THIS WAS: 1) NOT ASKING FOR NOTAMS FOR ARLINGTON DURING THE FSS PREFLT BRIEFING FOR THE FLT; 2) MENTALLY SLIPPING A DAY; THINKING IT WAS TUESDAY INSTEAD OF WEDNESDAY; 3) COMPLACENCY WITHIN THE NORMAL TRAINING RTE AND ROUTINE; AND 4) ATC; ZSE; CLRED US FOR AN APCH THAT WAS NOT (ACCORDING TO INFO IN MAIL); TO BE AUTH DURING THAT PERIOD OF TIME; AT AWO.
