Narrative
WHILE ENRTE FROM NEW HAVEN; CT; TO WASHINGTON'S DULLES ARPT AT 14000 FT ON 135.75 AND ACTING AS A CREW MEMBER ON AN ACR FLT; WE PASSED THROUGH NEW YORK'S AIRSPACE. I OBSERVED AN AIR TFC CTLR QUESTIONING A COUPLE OF ACFT AS TO THEIR CALL SIGN AFTER READBACKS. I HEARD AN ACR FLT REPRIMANDED ABOUT NOT USING HIS CALL SIGN AND ANOTHER ACR FLT COMMENTED ABOUT THE CTLR ENTERTAINING HIM. THIS SEEMED TO ANGER THE CTLR. ATC THEN MADE A GENERAL BROADCAST THAT HE DIDN'T HAVE CALLER IDENT OR MENTAL TELEPATHY TO USE CALL SIGNS. WHEN ANOTHER ACFT CHANGED FREQS THEY MADE THE COMMENT THAT 'IT HAD BEEN A REAL PLEASURE;' THIS WAS IN ADDITION TO NUMEROUS OTHER COMMENTS BY OTHER ACFT. ON OUR HDOF TO ANOTHER NEW YORK FREQ 133.67 I WAS DETERMINED NOT TO MIX-UP ANY OF WHAT THE CTLR HAD TOLD ME. IN MY READBACK I FORGOT TO USE MY CALL SIGN REPLYING WITH ONLY THE NEW FREQ AND 'GOOD DAY SIR.' BEFORE I COULD CORRECT MY MISTAKE THE CTLR SNAPPED BACK WITH 'I'M GOING TO WRITE YOU UP; I'M GOING TO WRITE YOU UP AND TURN IT IN TO THE GATO.' I APOLOGIZED AND STATED THAT I HAD MADE A MISTAKE AND THAT IT WAS COMPLETELY UNINTENTIONAL. THE CTLR THEN REPLIED; 'WE'LL SEE WHAT THE GATO HAS TO SAY ABOUT THAT.' THIS PERSON COULD HAVE JUST BEEN HAVING A BAD DAY. HOWEVER; THIS ONLY DIVERTED THE ATTN OF EVERYONE INVOLVED FROM OTHER DUTIES WE WERE ASSIGNED.
