Narrative
AFTER LNDG IN VFR DAYLIGHT CONDITIONS AT AN UNCTLED FIELD WITH A UNICOM; I LEFT THE ACTIVE RWY AND TAXIED UP TO THE MAIN RAMP. SWITCHING TO A GND ADVISORY FREQ; I WAS INSTRUCTED TO FOLLOW AN ARPT VEHICLE IN THE GRASS TO MY R. STAYING WELL TO THE L TO AVOID A ROW OF PLANES PARKED ALONG THE TXWY; I FOLLOWED THE VAN ONTO THE GRASS AND HEADED FOR AN AREA IN FRONT OF A FENCE PARALLELING THE TXWY. I WAS TOLD TO START A SECOND LINE OF PLANES AT THE CORNER OF THE FENCE; FACING THE TXWY. THE VAN DROVE TO THE SPOT; TURNED IN THE DIRECTION I WAS TO FACE AND THEN DROVE AWAY FROM THE FENCE IN THAT DIRECTION. AT THIS POINT I WAS CONCENTRATING ON FOLLOWING THE VAN AND LOST TRACK OF THE SPATIAL RELATIONSHIP BTWN MY L WING AND THE CORNER OF THE FENCE UNTIL TOO LATE. AS I CAME UP TO THE FENCE-POST I REALIZED I WAS TOO FAR L; PULLED OFF THE PWR AND BRAKED HARD; BUT STILL HAD ENOUGH FORWARD MOMENTUM TO CARRY MY L WING INTO THE FENCE POST. THE LEADING EDGE OF THE WING WAS CRUMPLED INWARDS BY THE IMPACT; JUST INBOARD OF THE WINGTIP. AS THE SPD ACROSS THE GND WAS LOW; THERE DIDN'T APPEAR TO BE ANY STRUCTURAL DAMAGE -- BUT SINCE THE AERODYNAMIC SHAPE WAS DEFORMED; I LEFT THE AIRPLANE THERE TO BE INSPECTED AND REPAIRED BY A MECH PRIOR TO FURTHER FLT.
