DURING TAXI IN AN L1011; WITH MARSHALLERS AND WING WALKERS; STRUCK A B757 THAT HAD PUSHED BACK AND WAS STARTING ITS ENGS. THE L1011 FLC THAT THE ACFT HAD HAD CONTACT; BUT THE B757 GND CREW INITIALLY SAID THAT IT WAS OK. A LATER INSPECTION FOUND EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO BOTH ACFT.

Narrative

MARSHALLED INTO GATE BY GND PERSONNEL. AFTER ARR FOUND DAMAGE TO BOTH ACFT. L1011 R WINGTIP CONTACTED B757 L HORIZ STABILIZER. GND PERSONNEL HAD GIVEN AN ALL CLR SIGNAL DURING THE ENTIRE EVENT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 377347: GND CREW DISCONNECTED AND WAIVED US OFF. THE L ENG WAS STARTED FIRST; BUT DID NOT ACCELERATE TO IDLE - - ENG WAS SHUT DOWN. BEGAN STARTING R ENG WITH COLD WX/HIGH ALT UNLOADED PROC. ABOUT THIS TIME WE HEARD AN ACFT CALL TO TAXI INTO THE GATE BEHIND US. RAMP ASKED IF WE COULD MOVE UP. WE SAID 'NO.' WE DIDN'T HAVE AN ENG RUNNING YET. WE HEARD THE ACFT BEHIND STATE THAT THEY HAD ENOUGH ROOM TO MAKE IT INTO GATE WITH WING WALKERS. AS R ENG ACCELERATED A SLIGHT BUMP WAS FELT LIKE A TOW BAR BEING DISCONNECTED. WE THOUGHT WE HAD POSSIBLY BEEN TAXIED INTO (GND STRIKE) OPS WAS CALLED AND A VISUAL INSPECTION REQUESTED. 2 RAMP PERSONNEL GOT ON HEADSET AND INSPECTED THE ACFT. THEY VISUALLY AND VERBALLY ASSURED US WE WERE NOT HIT AND THE ACFT WAS OK. WE BEGAN A TAXI OUT AND L ENG START. A QUESTION STILL REMAINED AND AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME RAMP CALLED AND SAID THEY WANTED US BACK FOR A CLOSER INSPECTION. DAMAGE TO THE L ELEVATOR AND LOWER L STABILIZER WAS DISCOVERED. THE L1011 R WING HAD PASSED UNDER OUR L STABILIZER MAKING A 5 FT ARC AND TAKING A PIECE OUT OF THE L ELEVATOR TRAILING EDGE.
