AN FO OF AN ACR MLG OPERATED WITH AN INVALID MEDICAL CERTIFICATE.

Narrative

ON FRI; AUG/HH/97; I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE FAA AEROMEDICAL CERTIFICATION DIVISION STATING THAT IT WANTED ME TO VOLUNTARILY SURRENDER MY MEDICAL CERTIFICATE. THEY STATED IT WAS BECAUSE OF MY FAILURE TO PROVIDE REQUESTED INFO PREVIOUSLY. THIS INFO WAS PROVIDED AND I HAVE COPIES; IN A TIMELY MANNER AND WHICH THEY HAVE EITHER LOST OR MISPLACED. THE REASON FOR THIS RPT IS THAT ON MON; AUG/KK/97; I PRIORITY MAILED THE FAA A COPY OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED INFO AND A LETTER OF MY OWN EXPLAINING THE POSSIBLE PAPERWORK PROB. I THEN PROCEEDED TO OUR PLT LOUNGE WHERE I CONFERRED WITH OUR CHIEF PLT AND EXPLAINED THE SIT AND SHOWED HIM THE LETTERS. AFTER DISCUSSION WITH HIM AND MY AME WE DECIDED THAT THIS WAS A PAPERWORK PROB AND THAT IT DID NOT INVALIDATE MY CURRENT MEDICAL. I THEN RESUMED MY NORMAL FLYING DUTIES WHICH STARTED LATER THAT MORNING. DURING THE MIDDLE OF MY DAY; THE CHIEF PLT CALLED ME ON LINE AND SAID THAT AFTER FURTHER DISCUSSION WITH OUR COMPANY AME THAT HE SHOULD AND DID PULL ME FROM MY TRIP. ON TUE; AUG/LL/97; I WAS INFORMED BY THE FAA; THROUGH OUR COMPANY AME THAT MY MEDICAL IS IN FACT INVALID. ALTHOUGH I ACTED WITH DUE DILIGENCE IN THAT THE LETTER FOR VOLUNTARY SURRENDER WAS DATED AUG/AA/97; AND WAS GIVEN 10 DAYS TO COMPLY; AND POSTMARKED FIVE DAYS LATER; AUG/FF/97. I RECEIVED THIS LETTER; AS I MENTIONED ABOVE; FRIDAY; AUG/HH/97. I RESPONDED BY PRIORITY MAIL THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. I FEEL THAT THE LETTER FROM THE FAA SHOULD HAVE BEEN MAILED IN A PROMPT MATTER AND THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN LESS CONFUSING IN ITS SUBSTANCE. IN OTHER WORDS MORE PLAINLY WRITTEN AND STATING THE FACT THAT I DID HAVE AN INVALID MEDICAL CERTIFICATE. I ALSO FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD GIVE THE RESPONSE TIMES TO COMPLY WITH FROM THE DATE THE LETTER IS RECEIVED NOT WHEN IT WAS WRITTEN.
