A CESSNA U206F WAS OPERATED WITH THE WRONG BRAKE ASSEMBLIES INSTALLED.

Narrative

ON AUG/ZZ/97 I WAS CONTACTED BY A MECH AT 'XXX.' HE INFORMED ME ABOUT A SIT THAT HAD ARISEN ON AN AIRPLANE THAT I HAD INSPECTED AND SIGNED OFF FOR RETURN TO SVC ON AUG/ZA/96; A CESSNA U206F. DURING AN ANNUAL INSPECTION; A PROB WITH A LEAKING FITTING ON A BRAKE CALIPER WAS NOTED. WHEN THE MECH TRIED TO INSTALL A NEW CALIPER IT WAS FOUND TO NOT FIT PROPERLY. THE PARTS CATALOG WAS REFED ALSO. CALLS WERE MADE TO THE WHEEL AND BRAKE MANUFACTURER 'CLEVELAND PARKER HANNIFIN' AFTER MEASURING THE WHEELS AND BRAKE DISCS FOR OFFSET; ETC. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ACFT HAD PN-40-75B WHEEL/BRAKE ASSEMBLIES RATHER THAN THE APPROVED PN-40-75D WHEEL/BRAKE ASSEMBLIES CALLED OUT FOR BY THE MANUFACTURER. THERE ARE NO ENTRIES IN THE ACFT LOGBOOK CONCERNING THE REPLACEMENT OF WHEELS OR BRAKES. THE PART NUMBERS WERE VERY DIFFICULT TO READ AFTER YRS OF SVC AND THE SIMILARITY OF THE 2 DIFFERENT PART NUMBERS MADE IT THAT MUCH MORE DIFFICULT TO DETECT. SVCABLE PROPER PART NUMBER WHEEL/BRAKE ASSEMBLIES WERE LOCATED AND FORWARDED TO THE MECH WHO WAS WORKING ON THE AIRPLANE AT XXX.
