NMAC BTWN 2 HELIS NEAR TMB; FL. ACFT X WAS TRYING TO EVADE ACFT Y WHICH APPEARED TO BE CHASING THEM. ACFT Y IMPLIED THAT ACFT X DID NOT HAVE ANY NAV LIGHTS DISPLAYED; WHICH ACFT X PLT REFUTED.

Narrative

ON THE EVENING OF AUG/WED/97; AT APPROX PM05 HRS OUR UH60 BLACKHAWK HELI WAS RETURNING FROM A MISSION. APPROX 5 MI W OF KENDALL TAMIAMI ARPT WE WERE CRUISING AT APPROX 700 FT MSL WHEN WE OBSERVED THE LIGHTS OF ANOTHER ACFT AT OUR 2 O'CLOCK POS AT A RANGE OF APPROX 2-3 MI. WE TURNED ON OUR LNDG LIGHT AND CONTINUED TO WATCH THE TFC AS IT SEEMED TO CONTINUE TOWARDS US. WE INITIATED A TURN MORE TOWARD THE R AS THAT APPEARED TO BE THE BEST AVOIDANCE AFTER OBSERVING THE APPARENT DRIFT OF THE TFC. HOWEVER; THE TFC CONTINUED TO CLOSE WITH US AT AN INCREASING RATE; AND APPEARED TO TURN INTO US. WE THEN MADE A QUICK R TURN AT ABOUT 1/2 MI AND OBSERVED THE ACFT PASSING OFF OUR L SIDE ABOUT 50 FT ABOVE AND 200 FT FROM US. WE NOTICED AFTER THE ACFT HAD PASSED THAT IT WAS A BELL HELI AND WAS TURNING AROUND TO FOLLOW US. WE SELECTED 123.025 (HELI COMMON) ON VHF AND HEARD THE OTHER HELI ASKING WHO THE HELI WAS NOW N OF TV ANTENNA. WE IDENTED OURSELVES AND REMARKED HOW THEIR ACFT APPEARED TO NOT SEE US. THEY SAID THAT WE DID NOT HAVE ANY LIGHTS ON; WHICH WAS UNTRUE AND CONFIRMED SAME AFTER LNDG 5 MINS LATER AT HOME BASE. A HAZARD INCIDENT RPT WAS FILED WITH OUR MGMNT. MORAL OF STORY: SEE AND AVOID.
