Narrative
NORMAL DEP FROM SFO. AFTER PASSING 400 FT AGL; CAPT CALLED 'ACCELERATION HT' AND FO CALLED 'FLAPS UP; METH OFF; FLOWS ON; AFTER TKOF CHK.' TO THE BEST OF MY RECOLLECTION THESE ITEMS WERE PERFORMED. HOWEVER; THIS WAS A BUSY PHASE OF FLT. THERE WAS XING TFC DEPARTING OAK AND MY EYES WERE OUTSIDE LOOKING FOR TFC. AFTER PASSING 5000 FT MSL CAPT DOUBLECHKS AFTER TKOF FLOW WITH CHKLIST. AT THIS POINT I REALIZED THE FLAPS HAD NOT RETRACTED SO I RETRACTED THEM. THE REST OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL UNTIL AFTER ENG SHUTDOWN. AT THIS POINT A PAX STUCK HIS HEAD IN THE COCKPIT AND ASKED 'WHAT'S THE TOP OF THE WHITE ARC?' I REPLIED '152 KTS.' HE WENT ON TO SAY THAT THIS WAS THE SLOPPIEST FLT HE HAD EVER BEEN ON. HE SAID HE WAS SEATED OVER THE WING AND THE FLAPS WERE DOWN THE WHOLE FLT. HE SAID WE HAD EXCEEDED THE FLAP SPD AND WE WERE INCOMPETENT. I TRIED TO ASSURE HIM THE FLAPS HAD BEEN RETRACTED. HE WAS ADAMANT THEY WEREN'T. I TOLD HIM THAT ALTHOUGH I CAN'T SEE (FROM MY VANTAGE) IF THE FLAPS RETRACTED; THE FLAP INDICATOR SAID THEY HAD. HE SAID I SHOULD WRITE UP THE INDICATOR OR DO SOMETHING; AND CONTINUED TO SAY HOW SLOPPY THE FLT WAS; ETC. THE FLAPS EXTENDED NORMALLY FOR LNDG AND RETRACTED AFTER LNDG PROPERLY. AT NO TIME WAS ANY FLAP LIMITATION EXCEEDED. THE AIRPLANE REACHED NORMAL CRUISING SPD AND HANDLED AS EXPECTED.
