Narrative

I DEPARTED H41; MO; SEP/XA/97 XA30Z DIRECT TO HOT; 188 DEG HDG AT 4500 FT MSL; 120 KTS. USING A KANSAS CITY CURRENT SECTIONAL AND MY GPS MY MODE C ENCODER SQUAWKING 1200. WHEN I WAS ABOUT 10 MI NW OF TBN AT XB10Z; I MONITORED FORNEY ATIS 118.7; WHICH DECLARED FORNEY CLOSED. THEREFORE; I WOULD EXPECT MINIMUM TFC IN THE AREA. MY RTE PASSED 10 MI W OF TBN; 3 MI W OF THE W EDGE OF R4501; 1 MI W OF CANNON B MOA WESTERN EDGE. BUT THROUGH CANNON A MOA; KANSAS CITY SECTIONAL LISTS ALL OF THE ABOVE AREAS AS NOT USED ON SUNDAYS. AS I APCHED THE N EDGE OF CANNON A MOA; I OBSERVED AN A10 WARTHOG PASSING BELOW ME AT 2500 FT MSL ON A 350 DEG HDG. I THOUGHT 'WHAT A NICE AIRPLANE.' 20 SECONDS LATER; I OBSERVED THE SAME ACFT PASSING ME AT MY ALT ABOUT 1000 FT TO MY R. IT CONTINUED TO PASS ME AND ABOUT 1 MI IN FRONT OF ME MADE A VIOLENT MANEUVER AND DOVE FOR THE GND. 'HOW STRANGE.' NO SOONER HAD THAT THOUGHT PASSED WHEN I HIT HIS WASH. I THOUGHT MY ACFT WOULD COME APART. I'M SURE THERE ARE SOME THAT WOULD. I DECIDED NOT TO SHARE THIS AIRSPACE AND IMMEDIATELY TURNED TO A 270 DEG HDG AND HELD THAT FOR 10 MI. AT THAT TIME I RESUMED MY PREVIOUS RTE. I DID NOT OBSERVE THE A10 AFTER THE INCIDENT. I DID NOT FEEL AT ANY TIME THAT I WOULD COLLIDE WITH ANOTHER ACFT. I DID FEEL THAT THE ACTION THAT TOOK PLACE WAS INTENTIONAL AND WONDERED HOW WOULD ANY ONE EXPLAIN AN ACFT COMING APART IN MIDAIR; IN THIS AIRSPACE. I FEEL THAT THE ABOVE WAS AS ACCURATE AS I REMEMBER IT. I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO STATE THAT AT NO TIME DID I DEVIATE MORE THAN .3 MI FROM MY RTE PRIOR TO THIS ACTION. ALSO; IF OTHER ACFT WERE TO BE DENIED THIS AREA; THE ATIS COULD HAVE SO STATED.
