A JETSTREAM 41 HAS A POD SMOKE LIGHT ILLUMINATE WHICH CAUSES THE ACFT TO TURN BACK TO DEP ARPT. WARNING LIGHT EXTINGUISHES ITSELF JUST AFTER THE ACFT TURNS BACK.

Narrative

FLT XX DEPARTED LGA AND THE POD SMOKE LIGHT CAME ON TWICE DURING CLBOUT. WHILE THE QRH WAS CONSULTED THE LIGHT SIMULTANEOUSLY EXTINGUISHED. AS A PRECAUTION ATC WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THAT FLT XX WOULD RETURN TO LGA TO SEEK MAINT. DISPATCH WAS NOTIFIED THROUGH LGA OPS. THERE WAS NO SMELL OF SMOKE OR OTHER INDICATIONS AND SINCE THE LIGHT EXTINGUISHED AND REMAINED OFF WE DID NOT REQUEST ANY ASSISTANCE NOR DID WE DECLARE AN EMER. AS WE WERE VECTORED TO FINAL WE NOTICED THAT EQUIP WAS STANDING BY ADJACENT TO OUR LNDG RWY. WE WERE SURPRISED TO SEE THE TRUCKS AND CONFIRMED WITH THE TWR THAT WE DID NOT DECLARE AN EMER OR REQUEST ANY ASSISTANCE. ATC REPLIED THAT IT WAS THE LGA PORT AUTH'S DECISION TO PROVIDE THE EQUIP. AFTER LNDG WE TAXIED TO THE GATE. DISPATCH AND MAINT WERE CONTACTED. MAINT DEFERRED THE POD SMOKE LIGHT AFTER CONFIRMING THAT THERE WAS NO SIGN OF SMOKE. I WAS INFORMED BY A MAINT PERSONNEL WORKER THAT FIVE OTHER FALSE POD SMOKE INDICATIONS HAD OCCURRED THIS WK. ALSO DURING OUR OCCURRENCE MY FO MENTIONED HE HAD PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED A FALSE POD SMOKE INDICATION IN THE J41.
