Narrative
DURING TRANSITION FROM CTR TO APCH; CTR 134.8 INSTRUCTED TURN L TO 090 DEGS FOR RESEQUENCING. AFTER APPROX 3 HRS 6 MINS AT 280 KT GND SPD I HAD TRAVELED FURTHER FROM PDK THAN WOULD BE ANTICIPATED AND MY RADIO SOUNDED CONFUSED; IT WAS LIKE ATL AND APCH WERE ON 134.8. I SWITCHED TO A SECOND RADIO AND HAD THE SAME CONFUSION. THERE WAS ALSO CONSIDERABLE BLEED ON RADIO. I CALLED ATL ON 134.8 AND ASKED WHY I WAS BEING VECTORED SO FAR AND HE RESPONDED HE DIDN'T KNOW WHY I WAS HDG 090 DEGS. WE TALKED FOR A MIN AND HE GAVE ME DIRECT PDK. I CALLED BACK TO INQUIRE WHY THIS HAPPENED AND HE SAID I MADE A TURN HE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT. I WAS STILL GETTING ANOTHER CTLR TALKING ON 134.8 SO I FINALLY ASKED WHAT FREQ THE APCH WAS TALKING TO ME ON AND HE SAID 119.2; BUT I TOLD HIM I WAS ON 134.8 AND HE ATTEMPTED TO INSIST I WAS ON 134.0 AND THAT I HAD BEEN HANDED OFF TO 119.2. I NEVER RECALL THE HDOF AND I CAN'T UNDERSTAND HOW I COULD HAVE 134.8 ON FREQ AND HE WAS CLAIMING I WAS ON 119.2. CAN'T HAPPEN. I DON'T BELIEVE I EVER ACKNOWLEDGED THE HDOF NOR DID THEY GIVE IT TO ME. I WOULD LIKE THE TAPES REVIEWED SINCE A DANGEROUS CONDITION COULD HAVE EXISTED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR WAS FLYING HIS PA31T CHEYENNE II WHEN HE EXPERIENCED RADIO PROBS. HE SAID THAT HE COULD NOT UNDERSTAND HOW HE COULD HEAR FREQUENCIES OTHER THAN THE ONE HE HAD SELECTED. HE HAS NOT YET HAD THE RADIOS CHECKED; BUT HE HAS FLOWN SINCE WITHOUT RADIO PROBS. HE BELIEVES THAT THE OTHER CTLR WHO WAS BLEEDING THROUGH ON FREQ 134.8 HAD A RADIO PROB. HOWEVER; THE RPTR SAID THAT HE WAS GOING TO HAVE THE ACFT RADIOS CHECKED DURING THE NEXT 100 HR INSPECTION. HE SAID THAT THE VISIBILITY AT 5000 FT WAS VERY GOOD AND HE SAW NO OTHER TRAFFIC; BUT AGREED THAT THIS WOULD BE A SERIOUS PROB DURING IMC.
