Narrative

CLRED TO DEPART ON THE PRADO 5 DEP; CLRED INTO POS FOR TKOF ON RWY 26L. RECEIVED AMENDED FLT ALT OF 3000 FT MSL. I (CAPT) ASSUMED THE RESTR WAS FOR INCOMING TFC AND THAT WE SHOULD ALSO NOT TURN L AT 1 DME FROM THE ARPT. I STATED TO THE FO AS I ADDED TKOF PWR; 'CLB TO 3000 FT ON RWY HDG?' HE DID NOT RESPOND; AND I ASSUMED HE AGREED. WE FLEW A NORMAL NOISE ABATEMENT TKOF AND FLEW STRAIGHT AHEAD. TWR SAID ONLY; 'CPR X CONTACT DEP.' DEP SAID; 'CPR X; DID YOU RECEIVE PRADO 5 WITH THERMAL TRANSITION?' WE SAID; 'AFFIRMATIVE; BUT TWR GAVE US AN ALT OF 3000 FT.' DEP SAID; 'I DON'T CARE WHAT TWR TOLD YOU; FLY DIRECT TO PDZ VOR AND RESUME THE PUBLISHED DEP.' WE COMPLIED AND NOTHING ELSE WAS SAID. THERE WERE NO ALT VIOLATIONS; AND WE OBSERVED NO TCASII TFC CONFLICTS OR ATC TFC CONFLICT ADVISORIES. NEXT TIME; I WON'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS OR ACCEPT SILENCE FROM A NEW FO AS AGREEMENT TO MY PREVIOUS QUESTION FOR CLRNC CLARIFICATION. HOLDING OUR POS OR EVEN TAXIING CLR OF THE ACTIVE TO CLARIFY OUR INTENDED RTE IS BETTER THAN LAUNCHING WITH QUESTIONS; AS TO WHAT WE WERE EXPECTED TO DO AFTER TKOF!
