A BE33 PLT RPTS THAT HE HAD AN NMAC WHILE BEING VECTORED BY APCH CTL. THE RPTR BELIEVES THAT THE CTLR TURNED BOTH HIM AND POSSIBLY THE OTHER TFC THE WRONG DIRECTION; TOWARD EACH OTHER.

Narrative

I WAS ASSIGNED A HEADING OF I BELIEVE 120 DEGS; GENERALLY INBOUND TO PRADO INTXN OR THE VICINITY IN PREPARATION FOR THE VOR A APCH TO BRACKET ARPT. I WAS GIVEN INSTRUCTION BY SOCAL APCH TO MAKE A L TURN OF 30 DEGS FOR TFC; WHICH I DID. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY UPON COMPLETION OF MY TURN I REALIZED THAT TFC WAS COMING TOWARD ME ABOUT 100-250 FT ABOVE ME AND TO MY IMMEDIATE L SAY BTWN 150 AND 300 FT HORIZLY AND PERHAPS LESS THAN 1000 FT IN FRONT OF ME. THIS IS AS CLOSE AS I CAN ESTIMATE THE DISTANCES. IT HAPPENED VERY QUICKLY. I SAW THE TFC AND REALIZED THAT NO EVASIVE MEASURES WERE REQUIRED; BUT WE CAME QUITE CLOSE. I'M NOT CERTAIN THAT THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH TIME FOR EVASIVE MANEUVERS HAD THEY BEEN NECESSARY. I WAS CLRLY GIVEN A L TURN AS CONFIRMED BY MY FRONT SEAT PAX; AND I AM UNCERTAIN; BUT I THINK THE OTHER ACFT MAY ALSO HAVE BEEN GIVEN A L TURN. IN ANY EVENT OUR RELATIVE COURSES WERE CLOSE. I'M CERTAIN THAT HE SAW ME AS WELL COMING CLOSE TO HIS PATH AS WELL. ATC ASKED IF I OBSERVED THE TFC; WHICH I CONFIRMED; AND SAID NOTHING FURTHER. I FEEL CERTAIN THAT THEY REALIZED THEY HAD VECTORED US INTO A CLOSE COURSE. I SUSPECT THAT THE CTLR INTENDED TO GIVE ME A R TURN AWAY FROM THE TFC AND DID THE OPPOSITE. HE MAY ALSO HAVE INTENDED TO GIVE THE OTHER ACFT A R TURN WHICH WOULD HAVE ALTERED OUR COURSES AWAY FROM ONE ANOTHER. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I COULD HAVE DONE TO AVOID THE SIT OR PREVENT A RECURRENCE.
