Synopsis

A C500 DURING A PREFLT LOGBOOK CHK WAS FOUND TO HAVE BOTH ENG TURBINE DISCS OUT OF TIME.

Narrative

I WAS CONTRACTED TO FLY AS PIC A CESSNA C500; FROM AMW TO ADS FOR THE PURPOSE OF A PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION. ACCORDING TO FBO/MAINT RPTS AVAILABLE TO THE CREW; THE ACFT WAS AIRWORTHY AND CURRENT WITH ALL INSPECTIONS; ETC. DURING THE PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION; MAINT PERSONNEL WITH THE PRATT AND WHITNEY FACILITY IN ADDISON REVIEWED THE ACFT LOGBOOKS AND DETERMINED THERE MAY BE A DISCREPANCY BTWN THE RPTED TIMES AND ACTUAL TIMES OF CERTAIN ENG PARTS IN THE P&W JT15D-1A ENGS. SPECIFICALLY; THE HIGH PRESSURE TURBINE BLADES WERE INSTALLED NEW PRIOR TO THE LAST OVERHAUL; YET THE FBO RPTS SHOWED THEM NEW AT OVERHAUL. THE BLADES ARE APPROX 400 HRS PAST THEIR LIFE LIMITS AT THIS TIME; THE CURRENT OWNER OF THE ACFT HAS OPERATED THE PLANE APPROX 200 HRS. THE INSPECTION TOOK 2- 3 DAYS. I THINK ACFT OWNERS; OPERATORS AND PLTS BELIEVE FBO RPTS TO BE CORRECT; HOWEVER; THEY ARE ONLY AS ACCURATE AS THE INFO SENT TO MANUFACTURER BY MAINT PERSONNEL IN THE FIELD. IN THIS CASE; I THINK AN ASSUMPTION WAS MADE YRS AGO CONCERNING PARTS REPLACEMENT AT OVERHAUL WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN INACCURATE.
