Narrative
INITIALLY; AN ACFT BEHIND US RPTED A PANEL DOOR AT THE REAR OF ACFT WAS OPEN. TWR HAD US CROSS THE APCH END OF RWY 4; PULL UP TO TXWY D AND HOLD. WHILE THE CAPT WAS TAXIING; I WAS IN CONTACT WITH OPS ADVISING THEM OF THE SIT. MAINT FINALLY ARRIVED AFTER SOME 15 MINS AND CLOSED THE DOOR THEN GAVE US THE THUMBS UP. I THEN CALLED OPS TO ASK WHICH DOOR HAD BEEN LEFT OPEN. BEFORE I FINISHED SPEAKING WITH OPS; GND CTL GAVE US TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WHICH I REPEATED. THE INSTRUCTIONS WERE 'TAXI AA; F; BB; RWY 4.' WE WERE ON THE W SIDE OF THE ARPT WHICH I'D NEVER BEEN. WE BOTH THOUGHT BB WAS ACTUALLY TXWY B; SO WE TAXIED UP TO TXWY F. WE KNEW THERE WERE OTHER ACFT IN LINE FOR DEP SO HE TURNED ON TXWY F (TOWARD RWY 4) TILL I SAID; 'WE HAVE TFC ON THE RWY.' NEVER HAD WE ANY INTENTION OF XING RWY 4. AS WE CAME TO A STOP; GND CTL STATED 'ACR; STOP.' AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE HEAD CTLR HE SAID THE TRAINEE CTLR GOT EXCITED WHEN WE TURNED TOWARD THE ACTIVE RWY. I WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME HAD I BEEN IN HIS POS. MANY TIMES AS AN FO; I DON'T HAVE TIME TO CONFIRM WHERE WE'RE GOING; SO MAYBE IF THE CTLR HAD SAID SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT 'AA; L TURN ON TXWY F THEN W TO BB; HOLD SHORT OF RWY 4.' AND WE SHOULD HAVE VERIFIED THE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS HAD WE ANY DOUBT. ANOTHER FACTOR THAT OBVIOUSLY PLAYED A PART; WAS THAT NOW WE WERE LOOKING AT TRYING TO CATCH UP THE LOST TIME. NO ONE HAD A CLOSE CONNECT AT THE OTHER END; WE WERE JUST TRYING TO MADE DEP ON TIME.
