AN ACR MD80 FLC EXPERIENCES A WINGTIP STRIKE WHEN IT HITS THE BUCKET OF A DEICING TRUCK THAT WAS PARKED TOO CLOSE TO THE TXWY.

Narrative

AFTER LNDG ON RWY 35C AT DFW; WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI ON TXWY EK AND THEN TO CROSS RWY 35L. RAMP CTL ADVISED US THAT GATE WAS OCCUPIED AND TO ENTER AT SPOT X; CALL APCHING. APCHING SPOT X; RAMP ADVISED US TO ENTER SPOT AND PULL INTO THE HARD STAND NEXT TO A PARKED B757 THAT WAS ON THE NEXT SPOT. 3 UNATTENDED DEICING TRUCKS WERE PARKED AT THE CORNER WHERE THE X TAXI LINE TURNS INTO THE HARD STAND. I FELT THAT I WAS GIVING THE TRUCKS A WIDE BERTH. AS I MADE THE TURN; I MADE A MODIFIED SQUARE TURN BECAUSE OF THE TRUCKS. AS WE MADE THE TURN; WE NOTICED A FUEL PUMP TRUCK PARKED IN THE VICINITY OF WHERE WE WERE TO PULL IN. THE OPERATOR WAS LYING ON HIS BACK WITH FEET HANGING OUT THE WINDOW. I WAS MOVING SLOWLY WONDERING IF HE WAS GOING TO WAKE UP AND MOVE HIS TRUCK. MY ATTN WAS FOCUSED ON THE FUEL TRUCK AT THIS TIME. AS I COMPLETED MY TURN THE R WINGTIP CONTACTED THE BUCKET OF ONE OF THE DEICING TRUCKS. AT THE TIME OF CONTACT MY NOSEWHEEL WAS WELL TO THE L OR SAFER SIDE OF THE TAXI LINE BY 5 FT OR MORE. THE MAIN GEAR WERE CORRESPONDINGLY ALIGNED FOR THE TURN I WAS MAKING. AFTER CONTACTING THE TRUCK; I STOPPED; PARKED THE BRAKES; AND HAD FLEET SVC COME TO MOVE THE TRUCKS AND HAD MAINT VERIFY THAT IT WAS OK TO CONTINUE TAXI TO THE GATE. UPON GATE ARR; I ENTERED THE ITEM IN THE LOGBOOK. AT THE TIME OF THE CONTACT I WAS QUITE STARTLED BECAUSE I WAS TO THE L OR SAFER SIDE OF THE TAXI LINE. THIS FACT CALLS INTO QUESTION WHAT KIND OF CLRNC IF ANY IS AFFORDED FOR TRUCKS PARKED IN THAT LOCATION.
