C120 PVT PLT LNDG DOWNWIND BRAKED TOO HARD CAUSING ACFT TO FLIP OVER ON ITS BACK.

Narrative

THE ACFT WAS PUT ON BACK ON LNDG. I LANDED DOWNWIND; AND PUT BRAKES ON TOO HARD WHICH CAUSED THE TAIL TO COME UP. ONCE STARTED I PULLED BACK ON THE WHEEL BUT THIS DID NO GOOD. I TRIED TO GET TOES OFF BRAKES BUT AIRPLANE CONTINUED ON OVER. THERE ARE SEVERAL CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: TAILWIND WHEN I TOOK OFF EARLIER (15 MINS); THE WIND WAS ONLY 4-5 MPH. WHEN I LANDED IT WAS 8-12 MPH. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME LNDG HERE FOR ME. THE GND SPD WAS HIGHER DUE TO THE TAILWIND AND I PUT THE BRAKES ON HARD. EVERY OTHER TIME I HAVE LANDED ON GRASS; TIRES HAVE SLID IN DEW. THIS TIME THEY DIDN'T. THIS WAS A BAD HABIT/PRACTICE. THE AIRPLANE HAS CLEVELAND BRAKES. THEY ARE VERY POWERFUL. MOST OF MY TAILWHEEL EXPERIENCE IS ON GRASS AND AT FIELDS WITH RWYS OF 2000 FT OR LESS. 1200 FT FIELD WAS GOING TO BE 300 FT SHORTER THAN 1500 FT HAD LANDED ON BEFORE. THE AIRPLANE STOPPED IN LESS THAN 300 FT FROM FIRST TOUCHDOWN AND LESS THAN 600 FT FROM THRESHOLD. NEXT TIME DO NOT RUSH STOPPING; DO NOT GET GND RUSH; NEVER TRY SLIDING MAINS ON TAIL DRAGGER UNLESS ON SKIS. I HAVE LANDED IN 18 MPH TAILWINDS BEFORE SO WAS PROBABLY OVER CONFIDENT; THEN GOT GND RUSH.
