Narrative
DURING A TRAINING FLT ORIGINATING IN FRONT ROYAL; VA (FRR); I DECIDED TO TAKE MY STUDENT TO NEW MARKET ARPT (W45). WHILE APCHING THE ARPT WE CALLED FOR AN ARPT ADVISORY. WE RECEIVED AN ARPT ADVISORY FROM A FEMALE; WHICH INCLUDED CURRENT CONDITIONS AND ACTIVE RWY. THERE WAS NO MENTION THAT THE ARPT WAS CLOSED. WE CONTINUED ON; MADE 1 FULL STOP LNDG; THEN TOOK OFF AND MADE 1 TOUCH- AND-GO. WHILE DEPARTING THE TFC PATTERN; A MAN ASKED FOR OUR REGISTRATION NUMBER AND INFORMED US THAT THE ARPT WAS CLOSED. WE INFORMED HIM THAT WE HAD RECEIVED AN ADVISORY STATING THE ACTIVE RWY AND NO MENTION TO AN ARPT CLOSURE. HE WAS UNAWARE THAT THE PREVIOUS UNICOM OPERATOR HAD GIVEN THE ADVISORY. HE STATED THE ARPT WAS CLOSED DUE TO EQUIP ON THE RWY. WE SAW NO EQUIP ON THE RWY BUT DID SEE 1 PIECE OF EQUIP (A SMALL CART) ALONGSIDE THE RWY IN THE GRASS. HE INFORMED US THAT A NOTAM WAS PUBLISHED. I FEEL THE PROB AROSE WHEN THE INITIAL UNICOM OPERATOR GAVE US AN ARPT ADVISORY AND FAILED TO MENTION THAT THE ARPT WAS CLOSED. I DID NOT PLAN ON FLYING TO NEW MARKET BEFORE DEPARTING FRONT ROYAL AND WAS RELYING ON AN ACCURATE ARPT ADVISORY FOR NEW MARKET. I WOULD NOT HAVE CONTINUED THE FLT TO NEW MARKET IF I HAD NOT RECEIVED AN ARPT ADVISORY OR IF I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS CLOSED. THIS SIT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF I HAD RECEIVED A BRIEFING FOR NOTAMS BEFORE OR DURING FLT. IT ALSO COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE UNICOM OPERATOR HAD BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE ARPT CLOSURE. WHILE INFLT; I FEEL THAT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO RELY ON AN ARPT ADVISORY FOR PERTINENT INFO LIKE ARPT CLOSURES. I ALSO FEEL THAT I WAS PUT IN DANGER BY BEING MISINFORMED ABOUT SUCH PERTINENT INFO. I WAS LED TO BELIEVE THAT THE ARPT WAS OPEN.
