Narrative
ON OR AROUND NOV/XX/97 I WAS NOTIFIED BY MY EMPLOYER THAT I HAD INADVERTENTLY FLOWN ONE OF OUR PIPER SEMINOLES ON OCT/XA/97 OVER THE PRESCRIBED TIME OF AN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE. THE JANITROL HEATER THAT IS INSTALLED IN OUR SEMINOLES IS REQUIRED TO HAVE A 100 HR INSPECTION ON NEW HEATERS OR OVERHAULED HEATERS WITH A NEW COMBUSTION TUBE ASSEMBLY UPON ACCUMULATION OF 500 HEATER OPERATING HRS OR 24 MONTHS; WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST; AND THEREAFTER AT INTERVALS NOT TO EXCEED 100 HEATER OPERATING HRS OR 24 MONTHS; WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. THERE IS A STATUS SHEET IN THE BEGINNING OF THE ACFT BOOK WHICH WE RECEIVE WHEN THE ACFT IS DISPATCHED TO US. THIS STATUS SHEET INDICATES DATES AND/OR TIMES THAT REQUIRED INSPECTIONS NEED TO BE COMPLETED. THE HEATER HOBBS TIME IS LOCATED ON THE TOP PORTION OF THIS STATUS SHEET. THIS WAS AN OVERSIGHT ON MY PART. I WISH I COULD GO BACK IN TIME AND BE MORE PROACTIVE IN MY PREFLT PROCS BUT; UNFORTUNATELY I CANNOT. I HAVE LEARNED FROM THIS EXPERIENCE AND HAVE BECOME MORE DETAILED IN MY PREFLT OPS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 385871: THIS WAS A SIT WHERE I WAS FLYING AS AN INSTRUCTOR GIVING A STUDENT MULTI ENG INSTRUCTION. I DID NOT FOLLOW THE ADAGE OF ALWAYS CHK YOUR STUDENTS; EVEN IF THEY ALREADY HAVE CERTIFICATES. THIS STUDENT MISSED THE FACT THAT THE HEATER HOBBS WAS OVERDUE AND I DIDN'T DOUBLECHK THE FORMS.
