CAPT OF A SUPER DC8-73 FAILED TO HOLD SHORT OF ACTIVE RWY PER TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WHILE TAXIING OUT FOR TKOF. ANOTHER DC8 ON THE TKOF ROLL TOOK EVASIVE ACTION TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE RPTR'S ACFT BY MOVING TO THE L SIDE OF THE RWY.
Narrative
CAPT AND FO AND SO SHOWED FOR TRIP AS SCHEDULED. CREW HAD 30 HRS REST IN BRUSSELS. UPON START OF TAXI; FO ATTEMPTED TO CALL FOR TAXI CLRNC. CAPT ABRUPTLY SHOUTED AT FO 'DID I TELL YOU TO DO THAT?' FO REPLIED 'NO.' CAPT STATED 'DON'T DO ANYTHING UNLESS I TELL YOU TO.' THIS PREVENTED ME FROM BEING ASSERTIVE AS I NORMALLY WOULD BE. AS WE APCHED RWY 20 AT BRU; I REFRAINED FROM SPEAKING UP AND VERIFYING WE WERE NOT CLRED TO CROSS THE RWY BECAUSE THE CAPT CONTINUOUSLY BITES MY HEAD OFF ANY TIME I DO ANYTHING THAT HE HAS NOT TOLD ME TO DO. THE DC8 ON THE TKOF ROLL TOOK EVASIVE ACTION BY MOVING TO L SIDE OF RWY. THE RWY WAS 164 FT WIDE. A DC8-73 HAS A WING SPAN OF 148 FT. OUR ACFT'S NOSE WAS PAST THE R SIDE OF RWY (BEYOND HOLD SHORT LINE BY 40 FT OR SO). INITIAL TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WERE TAXI TO DEP RWY WITH NO MENTION OF US HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 20. THE ATIS DID; HOWEVER; SAY RWY 20 WAS AN ACTIVE RWY. THE MOST CONTRIBUTING FACTOR IN THIS INCIDENT WAS THE HOSTILE MIL DRILL SERGEANT ATTITUDE OF THE CAPT. I DON'T THINK ANY CAPT THAT CONSTANTLY SCREAMS AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS AT HIS CREW IS IN ANY WAY ENCOURAGING GOOD CRM. I HAVE SINCE REFUSED TO FLY ANY FURTHER TRIPS WITH THIS CAPT.
