A B747-400 ON TKOF ROLL REJECTED THE TKOF PRIOR TO V1 SPD DUE TO #1 ENG COMPRESSOR STALLING CAUSED BY COMPRESSOR AND TURBINE SECTION DETERIORATION.

Narrative

COMPRESSOR STALL PORT SIDE OF ACFT ON TKOF. PRIOR TO V1; I ABORTED; TURNED OFF RWY ONTO TXWY. ACFT WAS STOPPED. MINOR GREASE/OIL FIRE R SIDE WHEEL WELL. TAKEN CARE OF BY FIRE FIGHTERS AT JFK. TOWED BACK TO GATE. NO DAMAGES; NO INJURIES AND AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED; EVERYTHING WAS HANDLED PROFESSIONALLY AND BY THE BOOK. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE ACFT WAS A B747-400 PWRED WITH P&W 4056 ENGS. ON TKOF ROLL WHEN THE COMPRESSOR STALLS WERE HEARD ON THE L ENGS; THEY COULD NOT TELL FOR CERTAIN WHICH ENG WAS STALLING. THE RPTR SAID MAINT BORESCOPED BOTH #1 AND #2 ENGS WITH NO RESULT SO A PWR ASSURANCE RUN WAS MADE AND WHEN #1 ENG CAME OFF IDLE PWR IT STALLED. THE RPTR STATED THAT THE #1 ENG HAD COMPRESSOR AND TURBINE SECTION DETERIORATION AND HAD 15000 HRS IN SVC. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 387719: JUST PRIOR TO V1; HEARD AND FELT MULTIPLE LOUD COMPRESSOR STALLS ON L SIDE. SLIGHT YAW TO L CONFIRMED THAT ENG #1 OR #2 SUFFERED SOME PWR DEGRADATION ALTHOUGH NO APPARENT ABNORMAL ENG INDICATIONS WERE OBSERVED.
