Narrative

AT XP00; LNDG RWY 22R AT ORD; WE RECEIVED AN EXPEDITED CLRNC FOR THE HIGH SPD FROM TWR. A TURBOPROP WAS CLRED TO LAND RWY 27R; WITH AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT TO HOLD SHORT OF THE XING RWY; IE; RWY 22R. NOTE: ALL RWYS WERE DRY. AS WE TOOK THE HIGH SPD OFF OF RWY 22R WITH THE EXPEDITED CLRNC; I HEARD (OR THOUGHT I HEARD) .9 ON THE OTHER SIDE; IE; ORD GND FREQ WHEN ACROSS. BEFORE XING RWY 27R; WE SLOWED ALMOST TO A STOP AND LOOKED L TO SEE THE TURBOPROP ON A NORMAL ROLLOUT WITH A SPD SUCH THAT IT COULD MAKE THE RWY 18/36 L TURNOFF. I HAD FLOWN TURBOPROP ACFT IN AND OUT OF ORD FOR A NUMBER OF YRS AND A NORMAL TURNOFF FOR RWY 27R WOULD BE RWY 18/36 -- OR THE NEXT TXWY -- WHICH WAS SHORT OF OURS; IE; H1. WE NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED HOLDING SHORT. AT NO TIME DID WE FEEL SAFETY WAS COMPROMISED OR WE WOULD HAVE QUERIED THE CTLR TO CONFIRM CLRED TO CROSS. WE NEVER HEARD A HOLD SHORT CLRNC. IT COULD HAVE BEEN BLOCKED BY OUR OWN READBACK OF THE EXPEDITED CLRNC. LATER THAT EVENING; THE CAPT WAS CALLED AT HOME AND WAS TOLD THAT AFTER REVIEWING THE TAPE; ATC HAD DETERMINED THAT IT WAS AN OPERROR. LESSONS LEARNED: IF THERE IS ANY DOUBT OF A CLRNC; ASK THE CTLR AGAIN FOR CLARIFICATION.
