A C402 ATX PLT HITS A BERM AT THE END OF THE RWY AT O05 ARPT WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A SLUSH COVERED RWY. ACFT ATTEMPTS LNDG AT CIC AND; WITH A MISSING WHEEL; GOES AROUND AND DIVERTS TO RDD; CA.

Narrative

I WAS DEPARTING O05 FOR CIC AFTER A DAY OF CONTINUOS SNOW. THE RWY HAD BEEN PLOWED AND THE PLANE CLRED OF ALL SNOW. THERE WAS ABOUT 2 INCHES OF SLUSH LEFT ON THE RWY FROM THE MELTING SNOW. THE CONDITION LED TO A SLOW ACCELERATION WHICH BECAME STAGNANT AT 80 KTS IN THE SLUSH. AT THIS POINT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH RWY TO ABORT THE TKOF AND STOP THE ACFT IN THE REMAINING LENGTH. I BECAME AIRBORNE CLOSE TO THE END OF THE RWY; AND THE R WHEEL STRUCK THE TOP OF THE SNOW BANK AT THE END. THIS ONLY SEEMED A LIGHT THUD; AND I CONTINUED ON TO CIC ARPT. I INTERCEPTED THE ILS FOR RWY 13L WITH 3 GREEN AND ALL SEEMED NORMAL. DURING THE LNDG I FELT THE R WING START TO FALL ABNORMALLY LOW; AND DID A GAR. THE TWR COULD SEE THE WHEEL WAS MISSING. I DIVERTED TO MY HOME BASE OF RDD; WHERE I LANDED. AFTER MANY DEPS FROM SMALL HIGH ALT ARPTS IN SNOW CONDITIONS; I WAS READY FOR THE LONGER TKOF ROLL. AND WITH NORMAL ACCELERATE-STOP DISTANCE ON A DRY RWY BEING 4000 FT IN THE C402 AT 4500 FT; BY THE TIME I REALIZED THE EFFECT OF THE SLUSH; I KNEW I COULD NOT ABORT SAFELY AND MY DECISION WAS TO CONTINUE. IN THE FUTURE; I WILL TRY A HIGH SPD TAXI FIRST. THIS WILL HELP MY DECISION TO TKOF OR SIMPLY NOT TO UNTIL BETTER CONDITIONS PREVAIL.
