FLC OF F100 ENCOUNTERS WAKE TURB WHILE INTERCEPTING THE ILS INTO ORD. IMMEDIATE CORRECTIVE ACTION; BUT THEY SLIDE OVER INTO THE APCH PATH FOR THE PARALLEL RWY.

Narrative

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO INTERCEPT RWY 27R LOC FROM THE N WE ENCOUNTERED WAKE TURB FROM THE PRECEDING HVY ACFT. THE ENCOUNTER WAS SEVERE ENOUGH TO RAISE CONCERN OVER THE SAFETY OF THE ACFT SO A FULL PRESCRIBED RECOVERY WAS INITIATED. HOWEVER; IN THE ATTEMPT TO MAINTAIN CTL OF THE ACFT; WE FLEW THROUGH THE LOC. WITH THIS PUTTING US MORE IN LINE WITH APCHS TO RWY 27L; ATC ADVISED US TO FLY A 330 DEG HDG FOR THE INTERCEPT. WE ADVISED APCH OF THE EVENT AND PROCEEDED WITH A NORMAL APCH AND LNDG. THE USE OF RUDDER AS DEMONSTRATED IN OUR TRAINING I REALLY FEEL MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN OUR ROLL RECOVERY RATE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THAT HE JUST COMPLETED THE UNUSUAL ATTITUDE TRAINING AND BELIEVES THAT HELPED HIM TO RECOVER SO WELL AND HANDLE THE SIT QUICKLY WITH MINIMAL PROBS. HE FEELS THAT ATC COULD HELP BY BRINGING THE HEAVIER ACFT IN AT A LOWER ALT THAN THE LIGHTER ACRS SUCH AS HIS F100. HE FEELS THE QUARTERING TAILWIND WAS THE PROB CAUSING THE WAKE TO REMAIN.
