I FLY IN AND OUT OF MOST LARGE UNITED STATES ARPTS WITHIN A 30 DAY PERIOD. ARPTS LIKE ABQ; LAS; BNA JUST TO NAME A FEW. THE TWR ASSIGNS YOU A RWY FOR TKOF THAT IS NOT THE BEST SUITED BECAUSE OF THE WINDS. EXAMPLE: AT ABQ THE WINDS WERE 340 DEGS AT 10-18 KTS. THE TWR ASSIGNS RWY 26 FOR DEP. YOU ASK FOR RWY 35; THE TWR REPLIES WITH IT IS A NOISE SENSITIVE RWY. I TELL THE TWR I WANT RWY 35. HE REPLIES THE CITY WANTS TO KNOW WHY YOU WANT RWY 35 FOR DEP. I REPLY; SAFETY OF FLT; WIND DIRECTION; WET RWYS; WINDSHEAR; ROLL CLOUDS; MOUNTAINS IN THE AREA. AFTER A MAJOR FIGHT; THE CTLR GIVES YOU RWY 35. BNA: ON A FLT FROM BNA-OAK; VERY HVY ACFT; THE CTLR GIVES YOU RWY 2R FOR DEP. YOU ASK FOR RWY 31 BECAUSE IT IS THE LONGEST RWY AND THE WIND IS 340 DEGS AT 12 KTS. YOU ASK FOR RWY 31. TWR SAYS IT'S NOISE SENSITIVE AND ONLY IF IT IS OPERATIONAL WILL THEY GIVE IT TO YOU. WITH A V1 SPD AROUND 145 KTS; I'M THINKING STOPPING DISTANCE! IF I BLOW A TIRE AND RUN OFF THE RWY ON RWY 2R; WHAT DO YOU THINK THE FAA WILL SAY? PHX: ALL EARLY MORNING AND LATE AFTERNOON DEPS AND LNDGS ARE ALWAYS MADE INTO THE SUN; REGARDLESS OF THE WIND. I HAVE LANDED IN THE SUN WITH AN 8 KT TAILWIND AT PHX BEFORE. WE HAD A PHX TWR CTLR SPEAK AT OUR GND SCHOOL CLASS; AND WE ASKED HIM WHY THIS HAPPENS. HE REPLIED WITH 'IT'S BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT THE CTLR TO BE BLINDED BY THE SUN.' THIS REASONING IS GOING TO KILL A LOT OF PEOPLE SOMEDAY! IF I'M TAKING OFF IN THE SUN AND LOSE AN ENG OR BLOW A TIRE; AND BLINDED BY THE SUN THIS WILL HAPPEN! ALSO; PHX TWR IS THE WORST ARPT FOR SMALL GA ACFT. THEY MAKE IT VERY CLR YOU ARE NOT WELCOME THERE. I HAD MY C210 BASED AT PHX FOR 2 YRS -- I KNOW!
