MD80S ACFT HAD FAILURE OF #1 CENTRAL AIR DATA COMPUTER SO BOTH FLC SELECTED THE #2 CENTRAL AIR DATA COMPUTER. A SICK PAX; BEING ATTENDED BY A PHYSICIAN; ADDED TO THE FLC'S WORKLOAD. WHEN THE #2 CENTRAL AIR DATA COMPUTER FAILED AN EMER WAS DECLARED AND THE FLT DIVERTED.

Narrative

LOST L CENTRAL AIR DATA COMPUTER OUT OF DFW; ISOLATED SYS FAULT TO THAT SIDE AND SELECTOR TO BOTH ON 2. ACCOMPLISHED EMER/ABNORMAL PROCS AND PRESSED ON TO EWR. NOTIFIED BY #1 FLT ATTENDANT THAT PAX IN XD OR XE WAS VOMITING A LOT AND SAID SHE HAD PROBS WITH GALLSTONES. PAX MOVED TO REAR OF PLANE WITH A PHYSICIAN; ATTENDING AND MONITORING. DEVIATING FOR WX AT FL330 LOST R CENTRAL AIR DATA COMPUTER. DECLARED AN EMER AT THIS TIME WITH ATC. CONTACTED DISPATCH AND TOLD THEM MY PROBS AND WAS ELECTING TO GO TO ATL. MADE ANNOUNCEMENT OF MEDICAL EMER ONBOARD OVER PA TO PAX. INFORMED ATL OPS WE WERE COMING AND OUR SIT. IT'S GONE FROM STANDBY INSTS TO PARTIAL PWR ON R CENTRAL AIR DATA COMPUTER AFTER TRYING L; BOTH; AND R CENTRAL AIR DATA COMPUTER AGAIN. RPTED SOULS ONBOARD; FUEL REMAINING AND WE WOULD NOT BE ACCEPTING SPD REDUCTIONS OR TURNS FOR A RAW DATA APCH WITH ATL APCH FACILITY. WITH NO AUTOPLT OR AUTOTHROTTLES; I DID ASK FOR A BLOCK ALT OF FL310-FL330; DUE MODERATE TURB. MY NEW YORK ATTENDANTS HANDLED THIS OFF-LINE STOP AND EMER MAGNIFICENTLY. PAX WERE ONLY DELAYED 1 HR AT ATL AND BACK ON ANOTHER PLANE TO EWR. KEPT MY ATTENDANTS IN LOOP OF SIT AND THIS MADE MY JOB SO MUCH EASIER. A BIG THANK YOU TO THEM WOULD GO FAR AS WELL AS MY DISPATCHER AT DESK XXX WHO COORDINATED THIS EMER SO SMOOTHLY.
