PLT OF SMT CARGO FLT MAKES A LOW ALT TURN AFTER TKOF THEN THINKS PERHAPS IT WAS NOT THE BEST JUDGEMENT TO TURN SO LOW AND CLOSE IN.

Narrative

I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 26L AT GRR AND WAS ASSIGNED A HDG OF 340 DEGS AFTER TKOF. AS I BEGAN MY TKOF ROLL; THE TWR CLRED A COMMUTER AIRLINE ACFT INTO 'POS AND HOLD' ON THE SAME RWY WHICH I WAS DEPARTING ON. THE WINDS WERE RIGHT DOWN THE RWY AT 15-20 KTS; WHICH PERMITTED ME TO MAKE A SHORT TKOF ROLL; AND SHORTLY AFTER ROTATION; I INITIATED MY TURN TO MY ASSIGNED HDG. AS I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THIS RATHER QUICK TURN TO MY HDG I THOUGHT TO SOME DEGREE THIS MAY HAVE BEEN A LESS THAN GREAT JUDGEMENT CALL ON MY PART. ALTHOUGH THERE WERE NO OTHER ACFT WAITING WHICH I WOULD HAVE PASSED OVER; OR ANY OTHER CONFLICT WITH OTHER TFC; I FELT I COULD HAVE DELAYED MY TURN UNTIL GAINING A LITTLE MORE ALT AND NOT MADE MY TURN QUITE AS ABRUPT. SEVERAL REASONS FOR TURNING AS SOON AS I DID WAS TO ALLOW THE AWAITING ACFT ON THE RWY THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEPART WITHOUT WAITING FOR MY TURNOUT. ALSO; IF I WOULD HAVE DELAYED MY TURN A LITTLE I WOULD HAVE ENDED UP TURNING OVER THE ARPT TERMINAL; CTL TWR; AND OTHER ACFT; WHICH I DID NOT LIKE TO DO. IF I WOULD HAVE THIS TO DO OVER AGAIN I WOULD HAVE DELAYED MY TURN UNTIL AT AN ALT AND DISTANCE FROM OTHER OBJECTS. I KEEP LEARNING SOMETHING NEW EVERY TIME I FLY; AND THE DAY I QUIT LEARNING I WILL ALSO QUIT FLYING.
