BE02 ACFT AT UNCTLED ARPT FOR DEP RECEIVED CLRNC FROM CTLING TRACON WITH SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS TO HOLD FOR RELEASE. FO FORGOT TO TELL CAPT RPTR AND THE FLC DEPARTED PRIOR TO RELEASE.

Narrative

WHILE PREPARING FOR A SCHEDULED DEP (PART 121; IFR) FROM FKL-PIT; I (THE CAPT) WAS TAXIING AND MONITORING CTAF WHILE MY FO WAS RECEIVING THE IFR CLRNC TO PIT FROM AN RCO TO YNG APCH. THE FO READ BACK THE CLRNC AND READBACK WAS CORRECT. I FAILED TO RECOGNIZE; AND THE FO FAILED TO COMMUNICATE TO ME THAT WE WERE TO HOLD FOR RELEASE. WE CONTINUED OUR PRETKOF CHKS; AND I (THE PF); DEPARTED FOR PIT. AFTER DEP; YNG APCH INFORMED US THAT WE WERE TO HOLD FOR RELEASE. MY FO THEN CONVEYED THAT HE HAD FORGOTTEN TO INFORM ME OF THE HOLD FOR RELEASE. YNG APCH CONFIRMED THAT THE HOLD FOR RELEASE WAS STATED IN THE READBACK. THE BREAKDOWN IN COM WAS MUCH TO MY FAULT. I DIDN'T REQUIRE THE FO TO WRITE DOWN THE CLRNC AND ALSO I DIDN'T ASK FOR THE FO TO REPEAT THE CLRNC TO ME; FOR I WAS ON A DIFFERENT FREQ; MONITORING CTAF. I FEEL THAT IF BOTH CREW MEMBERS DIDN'T HEAR THE CLRNC; THE CLRNC SHOULD BE TRANSCRIBED BY 1 CREW MEMBER AND THE OTHER CREW MEMBER INFORMED OF THE EXACT WORDING. THIS WILL BE AN ADDITION TO MY CRM PROCS.
