Narrative
DURING PUSHBACK FROM GATE XA; GND CTL CLRED US TO PUSH ONTO ZZ TXWY TO REMAIN CLR OF TXWY XY. PUSHBACK AND TOW FORWARD TO ALLOW COMPANY ACFT INTO GATE. WE WERE CLRED TO START ENGS AFTER BRAKE RELEASE. I MONITORED GND WHILE STARTING THE L ENG. DURING START I NOTICED A LOT OF NOISE BY THE NOSE GEAR. I ASKED THE CAPT IF THE BRAKES WERE SET. HE REPLIED; 'NO; HE DID NOT TELL ME TO SET BRAKES.' AFTER STARTING THE R ENG I BEGAN MONITORING FLT INTERPHONE AS THERE STILL WAS A LOT OF NOISE. THEN I HEARD 'SET BRAKES.' AFTER THE CAPT'S RESPONSE THERE WAS NOTHING FOR ABOUT 1 MIN. THEN THE PUSHBACK MAN TOLD US TO PULL BACK INTO THE GATE AS THE ACFT ROLLED ONTO THE TOWBAR AND THEY WANT TO CHK FOR DAMAGE. THE NEXT THING WE SAW WAS A GUIDE MAN TRYING TO MARSHALL US. WE DID NOT KNOW IF THE GUY DISCONNECTED HIS HEADSET. AFTER FINDING OUT FROM OPS THAT HE DID; WE STARTED TO TAXI BUT STOPPED AFTER ONLY A FEW FT; AS THE PLANE WOULD NOT TURN. ANOTHER CALL TO OPS; THEN THE STEERING PIN WAS REMOVED. WE TAXIED TO THE GATE. NO OTHER COM CAME UNTIL THEY ASKED US TO CALL FOR PUSHBACK. OPS THEN GOT INVOLVED (THEY WERE EQUALLY UNINFORMED) AND TOLD US THERE WAS ONLY CHIPPED PAINT. THE SECOND PUSHBACK; TAXI OUT; AND TKOF WERE UNEVENTFUL. THERE WAS LITTLE OR NO COM FROM THE GND CREW. THEY FAILED TO ADHERE TO COMPANY SOPS.
