Narrative
DURING PREFLT INSPECTION; DEP AND CRUISE; NO PROBS FOUND AND ALL THE ACFT SYS PERFORMED NORMALLY. ABOUT 25 MI FROM OUR DEST (PIT); DSNDING THROUGH 11000 FT; WE NOTICED THE HYD RESERVOIR CONTENTS GAUGE WAS FLUCTUATING BTWN EMPTY AND 1/8. WE RAN THE CHKLIST AND FOLLOWED THE PRESCRIBED PROCS. ATC WAS ADVISED WE HAD A HYD PROB; AND DELAYING VECTORS WERE REQUESTED TO ACCOMMODATE THE VARIOUS CHKLISTS AND CREW/ACMP/CABIN CREW/PAX BRIEFINGS. EMER WAS NOT DECLARED; AS WE DID NOT REQUIRE PRIORITY TO THE ARPT. THE FOLLOWING WAS COMMUNICATED TO ATC: NATURE OF THE PROB AND THE POSSIBLE EFFECT ON OUR NORMAL BRAKING SYS; THE NEED FOR THE RESCUE AND FIRE VEHICLES TO WAIT FOR US UPON LNDG; SOULS AND FUEL ONBOARD; AND THE FACT THAT WE WILL NOT CLR THE RWY AFTER LNDG. THE GEAR HANDLE WAS SELECTED DOWN (NORMAL HYD SYS) AND WE HAD 3 GREENS. CONSIDERING THE UNCERTAINTY OF THE HYD SYS AND THE RWY LENGTH (10500 FT) A ZERO FLAP LNDG WAS EXECUTED UNEVENTFULLY. PAX WERE DEPLANED ONTO A BUS. DURING POSTFLT INSPECTION HYD FLUID WAS NOTICED DRIPPING FROM THE L ENG. LATER; MAINT ADVISED US THAT THE L ENG DRIVEN HYD PUMP HAD FAILED AND THAT WAS THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK.
