Narrative

VFR RETURN TO HOME BASE; UMP; CALLED 5.8 NM SW OF FIELD AFTER BEING HANDED OFF FROM IND APCH FLT FOLLOWING. WHEN CALLED POS AND REQUESTED ARPT ADVISORY FROM UNICOM (123.0); PLT IN PATTERN CALLED PATTERN FOR RWY 15. I ANNOUNCED WOULD ENTER DOWNWIND FOR RWY 15. I HAD JUST DEPARTED RWY 33 ABOUT 45 MINS PRIOR TO RETURN TO ARPT AFTER DROPPING OFF PAX AT FRH. I PROCEEDED TO ENTER DOWNWIND AND BASE FOR RWY 33. AS I ENTERED FINAL FOR RWY 33 A PLT DEPARTING RWY 15 CALLED TO ME TO TELL ME I WAS ON FINAL FOR RWY 33; NOT RWY 15. HE WAS ABOVE ME AND BANKING TO R. I BANKED TO R TO DOWNWIND RWY 15 PATTERN. I HAD BEEN BUSY MESSING WITH AUTOPLT JUST PRIOR TO HDOF FROM APCH; AND HAD A MINDSET FOR LNDG ON RWY 33. WINDS WERE XWIND OUT OF THE E-NE. EVEN THOUGH I SAID 'RWY 15' I FLEW A PERFECT PATTERN FOR RWY 33. THERE WERE 3 PLANES ON THE RUN-UP AREA AS WELL AS THE DEPARTING TFC. NO ONE NOTICED MY POS UNTIL TURN TO FINAL. I SHOULD HAVE LOOKED CLOSER AT THE RWY TFC; NOT JUST WHAT WAS IN FRONT OF ME. THERE WAS NOT MUCH TFC IN THE AIR AT THE TIME.
