Narrative

WAS ON VFR PLEASURE FLT FROM 16G TO PTK VIA ARB. THE PLANNED RTE SKIRTS THE OUTER LIMITS OF DETROIT CLASS B AIRSPACE. WAS FLYING VFR ON TOP OF BROKEN LAYER. IN THE VICINITY OF YIP; STARTED DSCNT THROUGH LARGE HOLE IN CLOUDS. IN THE PROCESS OF AVOIDING DSCNT INTO CLOUDS; I INADVERTENTLY TURNED E INTO THE CLASS B AIRSPACE BY LESS THAN 2 MI. WHEN I REALIZED I HAD FLOWN INTO THE OUTER RING; I MADE AN IMMEDIATE 180 DEG TURN AND QUICKLY LEFT THE AIRSPACE. I WAS MONITORING DETROIT APCH FREQ AND HEARD OF NO TFC IN THE VICINITY. I WAS DSNDING THROUGH 4000 FT MSL AT THE TIME; WHICH IS THE LOWER LIMIT OF THE AIRSPACE. I SAW NO OTHER ACFT NOR DID I HEAR ANY MENTION OF MY INCURSION ON THE FREQ. WHEN I LANDED; DETROIT TRACON REQUESTED A PHONE CALL. I SPOKE TO THE SUPVR AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD HAPPENED; AS WELL AS THE FACT THAT I AM FAMILIAR WITH THE CLASS B AIRSPACE AND HAD NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN IN THE PAST 25 YRS OF FLYING. IN THE FUTURE; I WILL EITHER ALLOW A WIDER MARGIN OR INFORM APCH OF MY INTENTIONS AND/OR POS.
