Narrative
DURING TAXI TO RWY 5; JUST AFTER XING RWY 30; I FOUND A VERY UNUSUAL HOLD SHORT SIT. WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 5; BUT JUST PAST RWY 30; THE HOLD SHORT LINES FOR A TXWY EXITING RWY 5/23 PROJECT 1/2 WAY INTO TXWY C. ONE RISKS GOING OFF THE TXWY TRYING TO AVOID THE OBSTRUCTION OR XING ONTO THE ACTIVE RWY (ON THE TXWY?). SOME PROC SHOULD BE USED TO AVOID CONFUSION HERE; LIKE WIDENING THE TXWY OR POSTING A SIGN TO CALL TWR TO CROSS. IN A LOW VISIBILITY SIT; THE PAINT ON THE TXWY COULD EASILY BE MISSED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THE TXWY IS ACTUALLY TXWY B AFTER IT CROSSES RWY 12/30. JUST A SHORT DISTANCE BEYOND THE INTXN IS WHERE THESE STRANGE HOLD SHORT LINES ARE LOCATED. THEY ARE ANGLED ONTO THE TXWY BUT DO NOT CROSS IT COMPLETELY. THERE ARE ILS HOLD SHORT LINES FURTHER DOWN THE TXWY; CLOSER TO THE BEGINNING OF RWY 5. THERE ARE NO SIGNS INDICATING THE REASON FOR THESE UNUSUAL HOLD LINES AND IT IS VERY CONFUSING. THESE LINES WOULD NOT EVEN HAVE BEEN VISIBLE IN ANY WX SIT. RPTR FEELS THE PURPOSE OF THESE LINES SHOULD BE PUT FORTH IN A NOTAM OR SOME SIGNAGE TO LET PLTS KNOW.
