ATCT CTLR AT LAX STATES THAT THE TRACON IS ALLOWING B757 ACFT TO PASS TFC ON THE PARALLEL RWY CAUSING A WAKE TURB EVENT.
Narrative
SCT (SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TRACON); ON A REGULAR BASIS ALLOWS HVY/B757 ACFT TO PASS OTHER ACFT LNDG A PARALLEL RWY OR THE SAME COMPLEX AT LAX. THE RWYS ARE SEPARATED BY ONLY 750 FT. IN THIS CASE ACR X (MD80) WAS LNDG ON RWY 24R AND ACR Y (B757) WAS LNDG RWY 24L. ACR X HAD TO SLOW TO FOLLOW OTHER TFC AND WHEN ACR X WAS ABOUT 6 MI OUT; ACR Y WAS 1/2 MI IN-TRAIL FOR THE INBOARD RWY BUT HIS GND SPD WAS 90 KTS FASTER AND ACR Y EVENTUALLY PASSED ACR X ON FINAL. ACR X DID NOT HAVE ACR Y IN SIGHT UNTIL HE PASSED HIM AND THE PLT WAS STARTLED. ADDITIONALLY; THERE WAS NO WAKE TURB SEPARATION GIVEN TO ACR X. SCT LETS THESE OVERTAKES ON FINAL HAPPEN ROUTINELY AND EVEN THOUGH LAX SUPVRS CALL SCT ABOUT THE PROB; THE PRACTICE CONTINUES. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR SAID THE OVERTAKE PROB OCCURS ABOUT ONCE A WK. SAID HE HAS OCCASIONALLY GIVEN AN ARR A GAR WHEN SEPARATION BECAME A PROB. HAS SUBMITTED SEVERAL UCR'S OUTLINING PROBS ON SPACING AND RWY USE. SOUNDED FRUSTRATED THAT NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO IMPROVE THE OP.
